The Naomi Winfrey Show?

One minute she’s on Dancing with the Stars.

The next she’s being talked about for Seven’s new morning show.

Now it seems Naomi Robson’s shooting a pilot of her own Oprah-style show.

According to reports, Seven’s David Leckie felt he owed her the courtesy of a pilot, given her loyalty to the network and for making Today Tonight so successful (for those who can’t remember it had floundered under various hosts including Stan Grant and Jill Singer).

Robson had made noises about wanting a chat show after TT ended. But if Seven has a new morning show is there room for this. And if Nine’s Catch-Up is demonstrating this is no easy feat should Seven go there? Maybe they think they can do better, and who knows, maybe they can.

In the late 90’s every female who could string a sentence together was auditioned for a pilot along the lines of Oprah, Donahue and Rikki Lake.

But many found one fundamental difference to the American format. Aussie audiences were shy to comment. If such a format is to succeed, any Q+A segment may need a big re-think.
