Lock it in, Eddie.

Who Wants to Be A Millionaire is on the way back, five nights a week at 7pm.

Channel Nine confirmed the news yesterday to the Herald Sun.

Making a nightly version of the show will mean Temptation is to be moved, in all likelihood, to a 5:30pm slot, though this has yet to be confirmed.

Recent speculation has suggested that Eddie would host a nightly chat show and that National Nine News might be on the move to 5pm.

It is not the first time WWTBAM has produced half-hour versions of the show, with previous attempts at the show in shorter, late afternoon spots before. The quiz will return this year.

  1. He’s already hosting 1 vs 100 for christ’s sake.
Why would we want him to do any more than two jobs (Hosting 1 vs 100 and playing the role as president of the Collingwood Football Club)?
Now there’s speculation flying that he’s going to host WWTBAM again, and rumours he might be hosting a nightly chat show, and that’s not all.
He’s also going to start commentating the footy again. Yes, he’ll be up in the box doing the commentary for SEN 1116. Pffft!
This is just a big **** up of Nine’s weekly schedule and his weekly schedule as well.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he was part of a national ad for McDonald’s, part sponsors of the Collingwood Football Club.

  2. Interested to see what they will do with Brisbane “Extra” program at 5.30pm now. They never have moved it from that slot, even with Family Fued…

  3. This is moronic. Temptation is doing really well in its current timeslot, and usually comes 2nd (beating Futurama by several 100,000+ viewers).

I don’t watch Temptation as I’m sick to death of Channel Nine’s boring as quiz shows, and I would prefer BB or Futurama anyday over this crap.

The 30 minute Millionaire format didn’t work out the first time, and I doubt that it would work this time around either.

I get that Nine want to boost audiences for their 6pm News block, but moving a high rating show to 5.30pm is just being greedy.

  4. the previous times that WWTBAM has been tried here as a half-hour format IIRC were only intended to be short-run or temporary stints.. initially to create some sort of “event” feeling to the show and I guess also not to milk it to death.. Although i believe in the US they have had a syndicated half-hour WWTBAM in the daytimes, (as opposed to the network prime-time version) for some time now?

  5. Is it true that Temptation will be “shelved” in October?

Temptation is one of the few intelligent shows Nine has left, replacing it will Millionare is a joke!

  6. when Nine first launched WWTBAM wasn’t it put in the 7pm timeslot to start off with? I seem to recall they let Sale of the Century take a break while Millionaire was given a temporary run in that timeslot?

  7. Temptation at 5:30pm – thats will be interesting given that it is not a cheap show to make for that timeslot. It seems a little silly given that some nights Temptation actually wins the 7pm slot.

The last time the half hour version of Millionaire was made it last only a few weeks.

Replacing one quiz show with another is hardly a great move and Millionaire is a slow moving show – even in its half hour format. But obviously the issue of the license fee for Millionaire has been resolved or Nine is simply willing to pay the increased fee to have Eddie do something for his $5 million pay cheque. Hopefully, one day someone will explain to me how a CEO of a Network negotiates with himself to get a $5 million pay cheque and then only to resign as CEO.

  8. I can’t get enough of Eddy..Could he please read the news, host a Current Affair, and then star in an action drama each night of the week at 7.30..Also he could read the late night news as well..

  9. Gawd – I thought we were finally rid of Eddie and WWTBAM once and for all. Why is it Nine doesn’t get that most people are sick of McGuire and this tired gameshow?

Going back to the 30 min format might eliminate some of the “we’ll find out….right after this break” shtick which is at best irritating. But didn’t the 30 min version fail miserably the last time Nine tried it?

I suggest Nine scrap WWTBAM all together and concentrate on something which is sadly lacking on Australian TV – high quality entertainment and comedy. How about a decent Aussie sitcom or two?
