Airdate: Prison Break

Series 3 of Prison Break will air in Australia from Wednesday September 26 at 9:30pm.

It premieres in the US the week before, on September 18.

Seven will ‘fast track’ the new series hot off the satellite as other networks are now similarly addressing.

The third series kicks off with Michael in a Latin American prison, synopsis is below.

Lincoln goes to the American consulate to try to get Michael freed from Sona, the most dangerous maximum security prison in the system. Inside, Michael struggles to stay alive, running afoul of Lechero, the prison’s kingpin. Meanwhile, Lincoln’s search for Sara has dire repercussions.

  1. Surely trailers and other promotional materials are available to Seven before the episode airs in the US? It’s not like these things go out live or are delivered to the US network five minutes before broadcast. That’s why the whole “straight off the satellite” thing puzzles me – the US network could surely just air-frieght them the tapes!

(Ten does get some HD material via a dedicated link to the US, but as far as I was aware that’s NOT a satellite link!)

  2. I know what you are saying Adam, but I still feel that it is a huge victory for us … the only shows I could not wait a week for are Doctor Who and Torchwood.
Hopefully we get more of this up to date airing as well as Heroes in the coming weeks!
    Jack!

  3. Prison Break though is on Monday in the US. So the fact is it would go to air on Tuesday here giving seven just over 24 hours. I believe that Seven could have started the series next week but of course advertising is the key.

Also adam i dont believe many people would waste their precious download time downloading Prison Break or Heroes for that matter, i think they would do it on DH, GA, and the other shows. I dont download much but if i was a downloader i wouldnt bother when it would be here in a weeks time.

  4. I think it’s a great step forward having programs screening so close to the their US airdate.

There’s nothing worse than looking up your favorite show or visiting entertainment sites on the internet and inadvertently getting spoiled about plot or casting developments.

It still would be better to keep shows less than a week behind however!

  5. I applaud 7 for showing the series just one week after it airs in the US! We had to wait five months for the previous two series and we’ll have to wait that long for “Lost”. I downloaded the last few weeks of Season 2 because QLD fell behind Victoria and I was sick of the football mucking around with the timeslot. I definitely won’t be downloading anything this year – why bother when you only have to wait a week? I’m tickled pink about this new practice, although I wish it didn’t clash with “Summer Heights High”! At least that will only be the case for about 4-5 weeks.

  6. Hey David,
Isn’t it airing on Mondays, starting from the 17th? so that means Tues morning our time. I think it still leaves Seven ample time to show it on Wed night, although I do suppose marketing might be an issue, but can’t they just show the same ads that the US will show…

  7. Being one who used to download Prison Break episodes (mainly because of seven’s delayed schedule), I’m glad that we will see the new episodes, a week after the original airing.

Seriously, for those who cannot wait 7 days to see it on aussie tele screens are too desperate. I can understand it if it was 4 months delayed, but 7 days isn’t that many.

Lets hope other channels will follow this change, and that seven ‘fasttracks’ other US imports.

  8. Im pretty certain that Prison Break airs on a Monday at 8pm on FOX in the US (so Tuesday 1pm here), so it’s very possible for Seven to air the series the preceeding Wed…..still im happy that they’v fast tracked it

and were not that far behind….1 week is nothing….people wont wast their broadwith limit on downlaoding a show they can see next week anyway….maybe sum hard-cpre fans might, but the majority wont….plus 9.30 is not late at all….very reasonable, plus Heroes needs that 8.30 timeslot anyway

  9. True it isn’t perfect, but it is in part due to US airing Tues (Wed our time) and Seven wanting to keep the same schedule day as previous seasons, plus they do need some time to prepare with marketing etc. It’s a significant move and one I’m happy to encourage. Who knows, maybe the next industry change will be more instant.

  10. i still think being 1 episode, a week behind, commercials, and a late timeslot is enough for people to continue downloading the show and i wish they’d go down the 36 hours later route.

in the past when we were 4 months behind, people could download the episodes and then re-watch them on seven, but in this case if people are downloading them the night they air in america the rewatchable factor will be lower.
