Biggest Loser crew "doesn’t give a shit"

Former contestants on The Biggest Loser have criticised the show over a disappointing duty of care. They are unhappy that the programme pursues a short-term goal for the sake of ratings.

Courtney Jackson and Marty Barrett warned prospective participants to expect a serious reality check once the show is over.

“They ring you now and again to see how you’re doing (when the show is running), but they don’t really give a shit,” he told the Herald-Sun. “But I’ve not had one phone call from anyone since the show ended.

Marty said, “You lose the weight on the show because you are locked away. Effectively, you’re cutting out all the fast food, increasing exercise and before you know it the weight comes off.” He added that he has difficulty keeping the weight off because realistically, most people simply don’t have the same amount of time.

Their comments follow direct criticism from US trainers Bob and Jillian who called the show’s producer “the bane of our existence.” Earlier this year they told a Melbourne radio station, “instead of being able to create a support system within the house, they have to cannibalise each other.”

  1. Isn’t that the point of a personal trainer? It’s not like they’re not dime-a-dozen nowadays. And it’s not like fat magically appears on you if you dont’ excercise 6 hours a day… it would only come back if they dropped those revised eating habits and pigged out. It’s not the producers fault if the ex-contestants give up on what they’ve learnt, they’re not kids.

What they are referring to is support to maintain their weight and how to keep it off in the long run with their normal daily lives.
I totally understand because without a support system, you can slack off without realising and need that reality check to keep you on track.
I do not believe they want publicity – far from it.
Theyre trying to inform the public that even though they succeeded in the house, success outside is long and hard and without help, they will be back to where they started from.

Why should anyone care about him after the show has ended? Did he expect that he would have job offers galore and Harry M ready to sign him up?? In an age where Big Brother contestants are wiped away into obscurity before their week as “evictee” is out, did this Biggest Loser loser think he was going to get star treatment?
