CBS News staff set to strike

Employees at CBS News are about to strike over ongoing frustration at having no contract for two and a half years.

In a union vote they authorised the WGA to call a strike at any moment. The union represents aggrieved newswriters, editors, desk assistants, production assistants, graphic artists, promotion writers, and researchers in New York, Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles.

The guild disagrees with CBS seeking the right to combine newsrooms and consolidate the staffs of radio stations in Los Angeles and New York.

CBS Evening News is read by Katie Couric. 60 Minutes is also produced by CBS.
