Chaser appearance ruled No Bingo

By David Knox on November 21, 2007 / Filed Under News 9

Channel Seven has blocked comedian Tanveer Ahmed, better known as Mr “No. Bingo,” from appearing on the ABC’s Chaser Decides election special

“Tanveer is restricted from appearing on another television network during the period of time that National Bingo is on the air,” a Seven spokesman told Confidential.

“This is our standard practice, and contractual, with performers on shows.”

You’d think Seven would have welcomed the extra publicity, given that the Chaser attracted another 660,00 viewers over Sunday’s Bingo audience. But after last week’s raid on the Today Tonight offices, it seems Seven isn’t in a jovial mood.

“It’s really disappointing the Bingo Commissioner won’t be making an appearance in the tally room on The Chaser Decides tonight – The Nation has been robbed,” an ABC TV spokesperson said.

i couldlnt agree more with anonymous, above, the contracting of “stars” to networks and not shows is pathetic and restrictive..in the UK the host of Big Brother (on Channal 4) had a talk show in the Big Brother “off season” on rival BBC 1 and this practice is quite normal, in the US, Bert would have been by Pattis side on “Dancing with the stars” despite his clip show commitments on Channel 9, as Rove said on Jay Leno when he was in the US earlier in the year, its one of the reasons why Australian TV couldnt sustain a nightly talk show like Leno or Letterman.

Why do Australian networks have these silly regulations? I wish tv regulators stepped in and put a stop to this sillyness. In the US you see actors appearing on other networks all the time. I think it would help our small industry greatly.

Thank God. I don’t want to see this annoying little idiot attract any more publicity than he already has.

That’s fine, he’s out of contract from next Monday, so he can appear on NEXT week’s Chaser.

And Seven? Disappointed in you, I really am. Nooooooooooooooooooo sense of humour!
