Comic’s brother in local planning fight

Mark Rowsthorn, brother of comedy actor Peter Rowsthorn, has run into trouble with locals and environmentalists in the Victorian coastal town of Port Fairy.

Rowsthorn, said to be worth $325m according to Forbes’ Rich List, is seeking to create a luxury 28-lot housing subdivision overlooking Port Fairy’s East Beach.

But the Department of Sustainability and Environment said the dunes were too unstable to support a residential development.

15 members of the public objected to the plans,
as did the Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority and the Western Coastal Board.

A Spokesperson for Moyne Shire Council said, “It is very unlikely a decision will be made before the end of the year.”
