Natalie crowned Australian Idol 2007

25 year old Natalie Gauci has won Australian Idol. Gauci from Melbourne pipped 17yo Matt Corby from Cronulla, NSW on the eve of her 26th birthday.

After a mammoth 3 hr telecast hosts Andrew G and James Mathison announced Gauci as the winner at the Sydney Opera House.

“Are you sure? I can’t believe this is happening,” said Gauci.

James Mathison, who had earlier joked he would punch Corby “in the nuts” showed her the card with her name on it.

“Its just really exciting” said an astounded Gauci.

“She’s friggin unbelievable,” runner-up Corby said.

Gauci earlier performed Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson as her final song. After the title announcement, she performed her forthcoming single, Here I Am.

Gauci is the third female to win Australian Idol behind Casey Donovan and Kate DeAraugo.

  1. David, I replayed that footage a few times (in full HD for accuracy of course 🙂 and it seemed clear that the Ten censor had mis-timed the beep on the audio delay. It wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened on live TV.

I agree with the commenter above that “I’m not fuckin’ this shit up” makes absolutely no sense, especially in that context. Kind of ironic that a mis-placed bleep made the line sound FAR ruder than it actually was 🙂

Why on earth they felt the need to bleep out “shit” at 10.30pm mystifies me anyway.

  2. Ok I replayed the footage.

It certainly seemed like “I’m not f***in” this shit up” given that’s where the beep was placed. There’s no need to beep out “shit.”

But in the interests of doubt, and as TEN was a technical disaster I’ve reworded the post accordingly. It’s highly probable he did say “makin” and TEN placed the beep incorrectly.

  3. My dad sells vegies at Parklea Markets, so naturally quite a lot of the produce goes unsold, so he gives some away to his employees and brings some home for us (and our neighbours/relatives) as it would be wasteful to just throw it all away.

And every Sunday, my aunt and cousin stop by at around 9.30pm and she picks out some vegies for herself (as well as helping my mum arrange them and all). I spent that time hanging out with my cousin and listening to the Idol broadcast via radio.

So… at around 10.30pm, my mum asked me to drop a couple of boxes of vegies in front of the neighbour’s house, and as I placed the boxes down on their doorstep they had just announced the winner (seems that the whole family was watching lol).

    True story LOL. 😛

Ah yes, and I also can’t stands the hosts. Andrew’s a tosser and James’ is a loser. 😛

  4. Correct, he said “I’m not making this shit up”, They bleeped half of ‘making’ instead of ‘shit’. “I’m not f*cking this shit up” doesn’t even make sense. Please!.

  5. I just thought how funny it was that Andrew G said how gorgeous Matt Corby looks, and then James goes and Nat looks good too!! He slipped his gayness there I think.

  6. I know, I’m just joshin’. 😉

Wow. I wish I hung around to hear the swearing lol (I heard the winner from the Neighbours house as I was placing a box of vegies on their doorstep but I was unable to hear anything else).

Well, hopefully it’ll be up on YouTube in the morning hehe. 😀

  7. Oh bugger off!

If some IDIOT choses to come to this site BEFORE watching the finale more fool them!

As if a site of this nature, which is EXTREMELY Quick with info regarding TV is NOT going tp update who won finale!

I doubt if some idiots come here over watching on TEN.

However, with TENs woeful presentation tonight, it wouldn’t surprise me

  8. No I haven’t. This site has always been Melbourne-skewed as indicated in footer, and other news sites have the news up too.

When the Oscars are on I avoid the net like the plague. I have also posted previous big wins, ie BB / Biggest Loser, as they happen.

  9. Thanks David – due to SC10 here in Canberra having issues we didnt get to see who won. Perhaps a repeat screening is in order.. I know there will be plenty of sponsors very pissed off
