Jodie Foster comes out

Hollywood’s Jodie Foster has thanked her longterm partner, film production manager Cydney Bernard at a breakfast honouring her last week, effectively confirming she is gay.

The couple are rumoured to have been together since meeting on the set of Jodie’s film Sommersby in 1993.

Foster, who has guested in series including The X Files, Frasier, Bonanza and even My Three Sons, thanked “my beautiful Cydney” as she collected the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award.

During her acceptance speech, Jodie called herself a “professional” and a “gentleman”, and thanked Cydney for “stick[ing] with me through all the rotten and the bliss”.

She went on to say she feels “something of an impostor” in Hollywood but is proud of what she has accomplished in her career: “Growing up, there were hardly any women in my professional sphere – there was maybe a script supervisor, the makeup artist and the lady who played my mother. I became the prodigal daughter after I proved myself in a family of men.”

“I don’t feel very powerful. I feel fragile … unsure, struggling to figure it all out, trying to get there even though I’m not sure where there is … I’ve been working in this business for 42 years and there’s no way you can do that and not be as nutty as a fruitcake.”

  5. We can make plenty of assumptions, we just can’t put it in concrete.

    As for ‘butch looks’ concluding sexuality, I think you better get ready for some feedback….

  6. Are people still asking if Ricky Martin is gay???
    I’ve never believed that anyway and would be disappointed if so but if it hasn’t come out of the ‘horse’s’ mouth, then we should not make an assumption whether he is or isn’t.

    But it doesn’t surprise me about Jodie Foster being gay – I never really thought she had a ‘feminine’ look about her – she’s always appeared more butch!

    And no-one believes that Ricky Martin is straight do they???? … a bit like believeing that Tom Cruise is sane! 🙂

    Saw the Ricky news too, though he isn’t very “TV” and it’s not the same as the person themselves confirming. Let’s see what Mr Martin says.

  10. Dear Jody made a living as a ‘tomboy” in films in the 70s. My memory of growing up in the 70s, was that it was ok for a girl to be a Tomboy, as Jody was in the movies, but not ok for a boy to be a “Sissy”.
