Airdate: Parkinson finale

The final ever Parkinson will screen on the ABC this month.

It airs at 10:10pm Saturday January 19 on the ABC. But despite being a 90 minute send-off with an all-star line-up, it’s disappointing the show wasn’t given a higher profile timeslot.

The guests include Sir David Attenborough, Sir Michael Caine, Jamie Cullum, Dame Judi Dench, Billy Connolly, David Beckham, Peter Kay and Dame Edna Everage.

The legendary host is retiring after 36 years. The finale aired in the UK in December.

  1. Thanks ‘Fed Up’ for the kind words. In defence of Flip when I’ve heard her talk about Outrageous Fortune she’s been quite clear that Nine were playing the last 3 eps while TEN has the new series. Maybe you heard her the first time. Mind you, as a disclaimer I’m also on AW at the mo!

As for Parky, BarrieT, while it works well weekly as a later show, I would have thought and end to his stellar career deserved more than 10:10pm on a Saturday, especially as a 90min finale. In summer it would have been perfectly placed in Denton’s slot as a send-off.

  2. Parky wouldn’t have wanted an earlier slot. The reason he moved to ITV from the BBC was he wanted a late night slot. The BBC had planned to put football on at 10.30pm and move him to 9.30pm which he thought would pressure him to change the format to an entertainment type of show instead of just chat. So he’s getting what he asked for. Anyway I think Parky’s had his time. I used to not miss a show but this last 12 months I have stopped recording it. The guests are becoming repetitive. Even the final show guests are people we’ve all seen before on the show quite recently.

  3. G’day David,

Didn’t know where to put this, so here will have to do. Not about Parky, but oh well (incidentally, only the ABC would put the final ever Parky on that late- it would be a ratings hit at 8.30 Sunday over summer).

A gripe in a moment, but first a moment of thanks. Thanks David, for actually being an INFORMED TV columnist/guru. There’s SO many ‘TV experts’ who have absolutely know idea what they’re talking about. I’m not talking opinion-wise, but with regards to research and knowledge.

Flip Shelton is on 3AW every day talking television, and is so clueless it’s unbelievable. Every caller who asks a question gets the same response “I’ll have to look into that for you.”

The other day, a woman rang up asking about the next series of Outrageous Fortune, and when Nine will play it.

Flip: “I’ll get back you on that, and contact Channel Nine”.

What she SHOULD have known is that Ten has the rights, and is currently airing the latest series!

Peter Ford on AW isn’t much better in many cases.

Terry TV on Crikey’s got ‘inside gossip’, but gets so many facts wrong it’s unbelievable.

Why, oh why can’t they use you mate- honestly, someone who knows what they’re talking about and can answer questions in a snap!

    Keep up the good work.
