Are these the girls next door?

First it was Erin McNaught, now Imogen Bailey is moving into Ramsay Street.

Best known as a cover model for mens mags, and stints in Celebrity Big Brother and Celebrity Survivor, Bailey’s appointment continues a worrying trend of the soap adding more and more personalities with a limited acting background. Idol Dean Geyer is now part of the show too. Occasionally such casting pays off, but from where is this move emanating? Within TEN or FremantleMedia?

Any Neighbours fan will tell you that the best girls on the show have been down to earth characters not glamour gals: Charlene, Libby, Steph, Izzy, Daphne….

TEN executives say increasing Neighbours’ ratings will be a slow process. The show, which had 600,000 viewers on Friday night, recently changed Exec Producers.

“I had a sexy image, and I’m proud of my modelling and what I was able to do with my image,” Bailey told news.com.au

“But I’m getting to a point in my life where I’m trying to shed that (image) a little bit.”

I’m surprised there’s much left to shed at all!

Trading cred for eye-candy is the last thing they should be doing. After all of the over-the-top stories, they should be trying to get back to suburbia.

Ratings are low because the show is absolute sh*t. And all these talentless “celebrities” aren’t going to improve the quality of the show, nor make them any more watchable.

Frankly, not a single remaining character on the show is intriguing enough to continue watching. Not even Paul, Susan or Libby are worth watching in the midst of such a poorly casted and lazily written mess.

What’s worse is that after ALL these years, they STILL haven’t ditched Ned/Zeke. :| They are the two flat-out WORST, poorest excuses for actors on the show at the moment. Neither have any redeeming qualities whatsoever, not even as “characters”.

Instead of putting us out of our misery, the producers RELENTLESSLY ditch well-loved characters in favour of these tossers. Unfortunately, matters are only getting worse with Dean Geyer being thrown into the mix.

He could barely speak on stage, what chance does he have of acting? :| He should go back to serving as a B-act for the Veronicas.

Oh this is ridiculous. I love Neighbours, but this is the kind of thing that turns me off

WHAT!? Argh this makes me so irritated to be an actor. There are people out there who are struggling to make it in the acting biz and Neighbours goes off and hires another model or ex-reality star?! What is wrong with them? Neighbours is a launching pad for actors, not bimbos.

I agree it’s a worrying trend. As good looking as Dean Geyer is, I’m cringeing at the thought of his acting ability. I fear he may make Ned’s acting look good. But I must say I really Liked Imogen in her reality outings, she was the best thing on both Celebrity BB & Survivor, so I think she might prove a surprise welcome additition. I wouldn’t have called Izzy exactly down to earth, but we still loved her. Kimderly Davis was another glamourous one that we loved.

were numbers down due to Tennis/Ledger or just becasue the show is failing?

on this topic however, it is a worrying trend, 1 is ok, but now two any soap needs good acting.
