Uh oh. Ray’s unhappy again.
The Nine personality said it was “news to me” that Sunday was planning a move from 9am to 7:30am starts.
The plans are understood to include a move away from the trademark Sunday “cover story” format to a series of shorter, tabloid-style reports, punctuated by news bulletins.
A diplomatic Martin said last night he would now “need to talk” to senior management about his role at the program.
Martin told The Australian, “It’s news to me, and if it’s true, it’s an interesting departure from 25 years of tradition. At 7.30, it becomes a very different program.”
That’s certainly true. Sunday has a stellar record for regularly breaking news and conducting interviews that traditionally make the 6pm bulletin around the country. It has not been the same since Jana Wendt left.
But hearing about an unhappy Ray is now akin a broken record. Last year he was set to leave the network altogether. His taunt to be given his own show was an unfair, veiled threat to new boss David Gyngell. He didn’t get it.
He still has skills worth offering, but maybe it’s time he took his own advice. If life on a reported $2m is really that miserable maybe his plans to return to writing or talk radio aren’t such a bad idea.
UPDATE: Sunday now premieres 7:30am Sun Feb 10.

Rays a relic, his on air used by date has passed and the network wants a fresh image, its time to start bringing in fresh faces.
this guy is so far past his use by date its a joke! nobody is interested in him, hence why he doesnt have his own show that he so dearly wants..Sundays ratings didnt increase when he came on board and nines election coverage was beaten by a re-run of “Star Wars” on ten if memory serves as well as both the ABC and Channel 7s election coverage
After his terrible performance on Nine election coverage, Ray needs to wake up to himself and pull his head in and actually start earning his $2m salary.
Also whats with this crap of his of always going to the papers to bitch about what Nine are doing to him. Why doesn’t he simply pick up the phone and call his boss!
