Tragedy strikes Dragun family again

Only two months after the tragic death of TEN newsreader Charmaine Dragun, the Dragun family has again been thrown into grief with the death of Lewis Bedford, her uncle.

The only brother of Charmaine’s mother Estelle, Bedford was one of the three truck drivers who died in a road accident on Sunday in Western Australia.

Mr Bedford, who was Charmaine’s uncle, and his neighbour, Rob Taylor, were hours from home after having visited Mr Bedford’s daughter in Brisbane.

“We haven’t quite settled from Charmaine’s passing so we’re pretty devastated,” she said. “And my father is 87 so he’s not a young man.”

Mrs Dragun said Mr Bedford was her only sibling and the family were close.

“He had his 60th birthday on the 5th of December; we took him out to dinner,” Estelle said.

Mr Bedford was due to return home on Monday morning after making a regular delivery trip to Queensland with Mr Taylor, with whom he was friends.
