Oscar, time for Oscarrrrrr

As we all know the 2008 Academy Awards take place on Monday (Sunday US), beginning 12pm AEDT.

They will air in a delayed telecast at 8:30pm Monday on Nine. Live to air red carpet telecasts can be seen on Arena (hosts: Joey Fatone / Lisa Rinna) or E! (host: Ryan Seacrest).

I’m watching a live telecast on Monday arvo, which I’m very excited about and I will post some highlights that are worth looking out for late on Monday arvo.

Rest assured, TV Tonight will post no spoilers about actual winners. The last thing I want to do is ruin anyone’s awards night!

But I will give you the heads up on how Jon Stewart fares, or a heads up for any musical highlights etc.

And lastly, my predictions!

Best Film : There Will Be Blood
Best Director: Coen Brothers, No Country for Old Men
Best Actor: Daniel Day Lewis, There Will Be Blood
Best Actress: Julie Christie, Away from Her (though I’d much rather see it go to Marion Cotillard, La Vie en Rose)
Best Supporting Actor: Javier Bardiem, No Country for Old Men
Best Supporting Actress: Ruby Dee, American Gangster
Best Original Screenplay: Diablo Cody, Juno
Best Adapted Screenplay: Joel and Ethan Coen, No Country for Old Men

Enjoy!

  1. Is the full event on Arena or E or is it just from the red carpet? Am I seriously having to watch a cut 3 hour version many hours later on 9? If I can’t get it on cable where can I get it live?

  2. My predictions!

    * Daniel day lewis for best actor.
    * Javier Bardem for Supporting Actor (he was friggin amazing, best serial killer in years)
    * I want Ellen Page to win Best Actress, but Im guessing Cate Blanchett will win (even though she annoys the hell out of me for some reason)
    * Amy Ryan for best supporting actress(playing the white trash Mom in Gone Baby Gone compared to the person she really is is an amazing transformation) but most likely Tilda Swinton will take it (didnt think Micheal Clayton was that amazing a movie)
    * Ratatouille will defiantly take out best animated.
Sweeney Todd will take out best Art direction, amazing movie.
    * No Country For Old Men is my bet for best cinematography. (Roger Deakins has done most of the big hit Cohen brother flicks a well as Shawshank Redemption plus the other nominee The Assasination of Jesse James, A Beautiful Mind, Dead Man Walking, amd The Village amongst many others)
    * Sweeny Todd for best costume, no one does goth like Tim Burton.
Best Director will be tricky, its either Cohen Brothers for No Country (they dont get much better than the Cohens) or Paul Thomas Anderson for There Will Be Blood (amazing he hasnt mademore films, but the ones he makes are hits, Boogie Nights!)
    * Micheal Clayton for Best Score, (if a score adds to the suspense and overall atmosphere of the picture it is defiantly this one)
    * Best Picture? I seen them all and I still think No Country will win, in my opinion easily the Best pic of 2007, I very much enjoyed There Will Be Blood but there is a lot more facets to enjoy in No Country)
    * Best Adapted Screenplay will be No Country For Old Men again, the dialogue is 99.9% identical to the book and the Cohens have somehow made it there own, its like the book was written just for them!
    * Best Screenplay will be Micheal Clayton, the writing of Tom Wilkinsons character and his breakdown as well as the neuroticism of Tilda Swintons character are impeccable.

It should be a great night!! With some really close calls!
