Battlestar launching prequel
Battlestar Galactica is (finally) getting a two-hour ‘prequel’ pilot called Caprica.
Set 50 years before Battlestar, it will begin production in the US spring. Creators Ronald D. Moore and David Eick have been working on the idea which was originally announced in 2006.
“We couldn’t be more excited to see this long-anticipated project get off the ground,” the Sci Fi Channel’s Mark Stern said. “It’s an amazing script and, though clearly inspired by the Battlestar mythology, it is not just a pale spinoff. This is a smart, thought-provoking, emotional and compelling character drama in its own right.”
Meanwhile the series’ final-season premiere will debut online nine hours before it airs on US TV.
Sci Fi will also offer Battlestar webisodes and a social game based on the show.

Yep, they are doing the full 20 episodes. Production resumes this month. As for David Eick’s other remake, Bionic Woman, he offically confirmed the show’s cancellation at the Caprica launch. Oh well…
Here’s hoping Caprica does well. I keep having flashbacks to the ill-fated Babylon 5 spinoff, Crusade. I STILL want closure on that one!
Does anyone know if they’ll make the full 20+ episodes for the final season? I heard they’d only finished 12 before the writers strike and haven’t seen any news on whether they have gone back into production???
