Corey up for MTV Award

Corey Worthington (aka Delaney) could wind up winning an MTV Award after his ACA interview with Leila McKinnon has been nominated as ‘Best TV Moment.’ His best competition is The Chaser’s APEC bust.

“It’s cool to be considered for an MTV award, and to be included in such great company, “said Corey. “My vote’s for one of my favourite acts Snoop Dogg… I’d love to meet him!’

Meanwhile Chas Licciardello quipped, “I really hope we don’t beat Corey Worthington, exposing a flaw in APEC security is much easier than exposing the humanity of a current affairs show host.”

Former Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews has a clean sweep of the newly-added Bad Karma Awards, no doubt for banning Snoop Dogg entry into the country for the 2007 MTVA Awards. Could many of the younger voters will need a reminder who he is?

Apparently there are some music categories in there too…

Press Release:

For the first time in Australian awards history politicians, pranksters, film stars, trouble makers, Grammy Award winners and pro-social organisations are all in the running to take home MTV’s most coveted prize – an MTV Australia Award. On Saturday, April 26 at Sydney’s Australian Technology Park, the MTV Australia Awards 2008 will launch 7 new categories reflecting the diverse style and expansion of the traditional awards ceremony that was the AVMAs. The newly styled awards show will allow the network to recognise people, organisations and moments alongside music that have entertained and engaged the Australian MTV viewer over the last year. Voting is now open at www.mtv.com.au/awards and closes on Friday April 25. The show will broadcast on MTV Saturday April 26 from 7:30pm with an encore screening on FOX8 from 6pm on Sunday April 27.

The seven new award categories will honour TV moments, personalities and organisations for Good Karma and Bad Karma Awards, Australian and New Zealand Artists, Live Performers, the ‘Remake Award’ with the eighth being the traditional ‘Music Video Of The Year Award’.

“There is no denying that MTV viewers have a distinct love of all things current and pop culture related… movies, sports, music, TV and everything in between.” Said Fiona Smith Director of Content for MTV Networks Australia and NZ. “It will make for very entertaining television to see who will come out on top as winners with characters as diverse as Delta Goodrem, Snoop Dogg, Corey Worthington and Kevin Andrews!”

Voting starts on Thursday March 13, and closes on Friday April 25. Viewers will also be eligible to win tickets to the show simply by having their say online or on mobile. Viewers that register and vote are in the running for the chance to head to the MTV Australia Awards 2008 to party like a rock star with the full red carpet treatment.

The MTV Australia Awards 2008 will feature eight live musical performances and eleven awards presented across music, film, television, sport, viewer-generated content and topical pop culture moments. Seven categories will be viewer-chosen with voting open from now until April 25, 2008. The remaining three categories – favourites in sports, film/tv actor and international music act will be selected by MTV Australia as a way of acknowledging those who have had a significant influence on the Australian MTV audience and are yet to be announced.
