NCIS returns to television this week and with it the character of Abigail “Abby” Sciuto played by Pauley Perette.
Abby is a forensic scientist and a goth, one of several boffin gals to dot current US dramas. But their character traits date back to many other memorable females who became known more for their spirit than relying on their feminine wiles.

Uh…geek girls. Well, there’s Fred (Amy Acker) from Angel, although she went from geeky bookworm in season 2/3 to sexpot in season four and villain in season 5. But she was a geek at one point in time. Would Ugly Betty count as a geek? There’s also that hot Asian chick from Chuck, Mac from Veronica Mars, Chloe from Smallville…thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Pity we can’t post images in comments
