Nine buys Hi-5 brand

Channel Nine and Southern Star have purchased the production company Kids Like Us, owners of the popular kids troupe, Hi-5, for an undisclosed sum.

The company was previously owned by former Nine executive Posie Graeme-Evans and Hi-5′s co-creator Helena Harris.

Graeme-Evans is also the co-creator of McLeod’s Daughters.

It comes at a time when one of the original members, Charli Delaney, is leaving the act. Kids Like Us is currently seeking a replacement, with auditions for a female aged 18-23 open via the Hi-5 website.

Hi-5 now screens in 118 countries and has a global audience of more than five million people.

Nine’s director of commercial development Martin Hersov told The Australian they were “extremely proud to be picking up the Hi-5 baton”.

And Cathy Payne, chief executive of Southern Star International, which is now owned by Fairfax Media, said they looked forward to taking the show to its next stage of development globally.
