Returning: Sea Patrol

By David Knox on March 19, 2008 / Filed Under News 6

Nine is beefing up its programming with the return of Sea Patrol -on a new night: Mondays.

The second series subtitled Sea Patrol: The Coup returns at 8:30pm Monday March 31, previously a slot enjoyed by Seven’s Aussie drama City Homicide.

It will compete with Desperate Housewives and Good News Week screening on commercial rivals.

The second series will also feature the introduction of a bigger boat for the crew, and a guest role by “Mr Everywhere” Alan Dale. McElroy Productions have also added former Blue Heeler Ditch Davey to the cast. Word is the second season has a tougher tone to it than the first.

In the series return of Sea Patrol, the crew of HMAS Hammersley risk their lives to evacuate civilians from a war-torn Pacific Island. The crew of an illegal fishing boat stage a violent escape, leaving Charge for dead. Nikki is furious when ET is transferred back to the HMAS Hammersley. Kate reconsiders her navy future after a series mishaps under her command. Stars Lisa McCune, Ian Stenlake, Alan Dale and Saskia Burmeister.

Press Release:

SEA PATROL is back for a bigger, sexier and more action-packed ride, with a new patrol boat and a mysterious guest star played by Alan Dale (Neighbours, Ugly Betty), when the second series commences Monday, March 31 at 8.30pm on Nine.

SEA PATROL II The Coup, starring Lisa McCune and Ian Stenlake, sees the crew aboard a new HMAS Hammersley, heading full steam ahead into very troubled waters.

The Armidale Class Patrol Boat is a high-tech marvel, but it can’t predict a journey that will involve a jewel heist at sea, drug and reptile smugglers, heroic rescues, a stolen arms racket, hostage taking, disastrous drink spiking, stowaways, and sinister international intrigue.

Onboard the Hammersley there’s a tidal flow of emotion as a love triangle begins to form and unresolved sexual tension takes its toll. An unlikely friendship is formed, tempting careers are offered, and there’s an unexpected change in the chain of command.

Running strongly through each stand-alone episode is a continuing story, awash with suggestions of political manipulation, suspect mercenaries, and a mega-plot that could see Australia involved in a web of international corruption.

SEA PATROL II The Coup also stars Saskia Burmeister (Nav), John Batchelor (Charge), Jeremy Lindsay Taylor (Buffer), Matthew Holmes (Swain), Kristian Schmid (RO), David Lyons (ET) and Jay Ryan (Spider).

The series welcomes new recruit Kirsty Lee Allan as Bomber, a no-nonsense country kid who has never been to sea, and Ditch Davey (Blue Heelers) as handsome SAS operative Jim Roth.

SEA PATROL II The Coup is produced by Hal McElroy and Di McElroy with the Network, Pacific Film and Television Office, Film Finance Corporation of Australia and Portman Media.

    >> and a mysterious guest star played by Alan Dale

    Seems very mysterious now.

    >> heading full steam ahead into very troubled waters.

    It’s a steam boat?

    >> but it can’t predict a journey that will involve a jewel heist at sea, drug and reptile smugglers, heroic rescues, a stolen arms racket, hostage taking, disastrous drink spiking, stowaways, and sinister international intrigue.

Wonderful, we will now never be able to predict any of this coming.

    >> and there’s an unexpected change in the chain of command.

Should we now act surprised when it happens?

Is it only a short season again 12/13 episodes? Or did Nine extend the episode order to a full season!

Fantastic that 9′s got such a huge Aussie drama output this year. Can’t wait for Sea Patrol 2, should be great.

9′s really giving 7 a pain in the backside this year.

Great to have the excellent series back sooner then expected. I like the sound of the new series as well. Anyway any word on what Nine will put at 7.30 and will CSI:NY stay at 9.30?
