- Previous post: Nine denies paying streaker
- Next post: Returning: NCIS. Gone: Burn Notice

This may sound nerdy but here goes.
Last weeks Life on Mars episode - Suburban Swingers - featured a song that Ive been trying to know what the title is.
It’s played during when Sam and the gang converge on a quarry where they find a dead body.
It’s also played when they return later in the episode.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what the song was and who sang it??
Thanks.
Hi David, anyword from WIN as to whether they will/when they will carry 9HD for most of Australia and 7HD in SA?
Actually Sam I haven’t specifically asked about 9HD on WIN given we haven’t yet received the official blurb from Nine itself yet.
The outlook for regional viewers isn’t great for HD. I haven’t heard of any changes for 7HD. You’re not missing anything there…
Hey David, will the new Simpsons return April 1st on Network Ten? (This will be the last time I’ll ask.)
Dunno yet. Will post it when I hear. Always refer to Coming Soon section if you’re in doubt or do a search.
Ok, I will. Thanks David.
David, the Robson Green series, Make or Break, is up on the On Demand service(this is the exclusive service to Foxtel IQ subscribers),it is the first episode which premiers on UKTV next week, I have just watched it and it is Excellent.
Mike Bullen is the creator(he also did Cold Feet and Tripping Over).
Yes a good episode I have also seen.
At this stage that’s all there is, but I am talking to Mike Bullen tomorrow so I will ask about more.
Hey David? any idea when nine will release their HD schedule?
They haven’t even sent out a press release on 9HD yet!
Hey David, I was looking at the online TV guides for Seven HD on Monday night, and at 7.30pm they list ‘new episodes’ and ’series return’ of The Rich List.
I assume it is a mistake, right?
Jake it was planned but dropped for Border / SCU repeats. Probably coming in April. One of those “subject to amendments” that apply for advance schedules.
Hey David! Heave you heard any word yet if or when teen colege drama ‘Greek’ will air on TV here, either commercial or pay tv? I caught the pilot on the net last year, and now they’re up to season 2 in the U.S., I don’t want to have to download very ep. Cheers.
Hi Dave, Any ideas if Ten will bring back Monk at any point either on SD or HD? Was my favourite show but I just bought the DVD’s when they came out because they still havent shown alot of Season 4
Nothing yet for Monk, but it was lined up for HD last year, so it must wind up there sooner or later?
Nothing on Greek sorry.
Hi David
any news on another series of Six Degrees?? Channel 7, Tuesday nights.
Cheers
David, I see ABC1 is going to be showing the 2nd series of the IT crowd, starting from the 16th of April- about time I have to say!!
Hi Dave,
Just one thing- I agree the crowds in Gladiators are a little over the top, but blame the producers, not us… they recorded alot of this at the start and they do make you do the ooo and owww bizzo…although honestly I think alot of the crowd sound may be dubbed over the footage. Also, I notice they’ve recorded new intros and closers because presumably there were no prizes or sponsors and the sort at time of taping.
I live in Sydney, and am a FOXTEL Digital satellite subscriber, and can now receive Channel 7’s broadcast, even though it was not suppose to happen until 2009. Any one else had this happen?
I noticed in the tv guide jericho is on late saturday nights, is this the same series that was on channel 10 last year?
Alas no.
Set in London in 1958, this series of feature-length dramas stars Robert Lindsay as Detective Inspector Michael Jericho of Scotland Yard.
You know I’m starting to think the network execs should be coming to this site to get their programming advice. The people who post comments here are pretty good at figuring out which shows will last the mile and which ones are stinkers, often even before the show has aired on TV.
It will be very interesting to monitor how accurate the posters’ “predictions” continue to be in the future.
Well we know networks do read sites like this and others for feedback, but they add it to the other sources like press, radio, telephone calls, buyers etc.
I suspect when they read something that contradicts their feelings they likely dismiss it by saying “well the online demographic is just one breed of people” -which to some extent is true.
david, is tv less interesting for you now that you have to watch it for a living
Hi David
I was just wondering if you knew when Pushing Daisies or Chuck were going to start airing? If at all?
Thanks
Hi Josh, nope, only bad storytelling or poor ideas bores me! And besides somebody has to hold networks to account, lol.
No word on Pushing Daisies, but as Nine gave it an early promo I can’t imagine they will hold off too long. It was affected by the strike, so no doubt that is a factor.
No word one way or the other on Chuck.
David, I love your site, and I don’t intend this post to be at all insulting or critical, but I personally, I think there’s a little too liberal use of the “Read More” links.
Now I totally understand the need to provide excerpts on the home page, and it’s great when you embed press releases in them, but some posts just have one or two more paragraphs in their “read more”. Some are clipped mid-paragraph. Surely a few more paragraphs on the home page would make it load that much longer, right?
It’s really kinda annoying loading that additional page just to get access to those two more paragraphs (and I haven’t considered those broadband-impaired viewers as well.)
Of course if you have your reasons, I totally respect that.
On Saturday there was a Radio National report that Mythbusters is filmed in Sydney.
Is this true?
I knew there was Australian involvement in the show but I didn’t realise they were pretending Sydney was actually San Francisco. Where do they get all the left-hand drive cars from?
Thanks Matthew.
Utterb, SBS haven’t confirmed any local shooting for Mythbusters but it has Aus producers from Beyond.
hey dave, love your site!!
quick question since you’re in the know - any ideas why all the reporters on National Nine News are now signing off with “Nine News” ? i.e. “Peter Harvey, Nine News”
sounds so weird!
David,
Any word from nine in regards to series 2 of Hotel Babylon and when they might air it? Surely they aren’t saving it up only for the HD channel?
Ryller I will check. The show title is still NNN but yes signing off differently.
Hotel Babylon is part of a chunk of programming next in line, assuming 9 sticks to plan.
Hi David,
Is there any accepted wisdom about the “real” ending in Sinchronicity?
(warning: possible spoiler ahead)
The last episode had more versions of the chain of events than you could shake a stick at; but I’m guessing because the end credits were accompanied by scenes of Nathan and Fi only, that we should assume they got together. Can you shed any light on this from a media kit information or other source ?
Cheers.
David thought you would like this story from BBC News - strange???
ITV drops Pushing Daisies episode
Pushing Daisies was nominated for three Golden Globes in the US
The second episode of Anna Friel’s hit US drama Pushing Daisies will not be screened by ITV, it has emerged.
The UK broadcaster bought the rights to the entire nine-part series, but only has space in its schedule to show eight programmes before Euro 2008 begins.
Viewers will skip straight to episode three of the modern-day fairytale, about a man who brings people back from the dead - including his first love.
Episode one brought 5.7 million viewers to ITV1 on Saturday night.
“Episode two was the only show we could drop without spoiling the storyline,” an ITV spokesman said.
Repeat showing
The missing instalment sees lead character Ned coming to terms with his power, interspersed with flashbacks to his childhood - including a school lesson where he was expected to dissect a frog.
As with the first episode, it was directed by Men In Black and Addams Family film-maker Barry Sonnenfeld.
However, ITV said the programme would “be shown at some point because the series will be repeated”.
The broadcaster said its decision was due to the US writers’ strike, which meant only nine episodes of Pushing Daisies were made.
The series has made former Brookside star Anna Friel a household name in the US.
It won her a Golden Globe nomination for best actress, although she was beaten to the prize by Tina Fey, who writes and stars in comedy series 30 Rock.
A second series is due to start filming later this year.
ITV and the BBC will split coverage of the Euro 2008 football tournament, which begins on 7 June.
Mike: And people thought our networks were bad! Yes I did come across that nutcase story.
Rudi: My take on Sinchronicity finale is that you can opt in or out of whichever ending works for you, as was the style of the show I guess. No surprise they chose to end on an up note. I have no specific details on the “true” ending but see what others have to say at:

David, the BBC series Rome premiered on Showcase tonight, do you have any idea on which version they aired? I believe when nine showed it last year it was edited or cut.
Can you please tell me when McLeods Daughters will come back on.
They have finished filming the last series, so where is it?
I’m wondering what the future is for Corner Gas (shown on SBS)?
The show was moved to Sunday morning and throughout the second season, wasn’t shown at the same time two weeks in a row. I’m not even sure if the 2nd season was finished?
dave, I recall you doing a post on the practice of Today Tonight and ACA telling their viewers what was “coming up” after the (final) ad break only to just give a quick preview of the next night’s stories.. i didnt find it on a quick search but i notice TT is now doing weather after the final ad break..
TV Tonight: Making a difference!
Really, thanks for the heads up. I must go back and check. Certainly know the site is being read, but that’s no guarantee of action!
Coming up next: absolutely nothing!
thats the one, cheers.
I’m not too sure how long they’ve been doing this for, just noticed it tonight during some channel surfing.
PRIME seem to be inserting local weather updates over the top of the TT ones, for which I assume Seven pre-record local inserts for each metro market. I only noticed it because Anna said “after the break, tomorrow’s weather and a look at tomorrow night’s show”
hey dave
since las vegas has been cancelled mid-season in the US, could that be a reason why channel 7 still has completed season 4 and what was recorded of season 5?
Because i really wanna know how…what was recorded…ends
cheers
Has Channel Seven shown those last two new episodes of “Heroes” yet? Or are they going to make fans wait until Season 3 starts in the US? That’d make it something like 8 months between episodes meant to be seen a week apart!
And has any local station looked at the rights for the Doctor Who spin-off “The Sarah Jane Adventures”? I suspect Torchwood series two will be a “straight-to-HD” show, but I would be happy if ABC (1 or 2) picked up Sarah Jane.
HI David
Is there any update for when Ch9 will show the Survivor Micronesia, which is currently airing in USA?
Thanks.
Survivor: Would u believe I asked again as recently as today? No word.
Heroes: 2 eps remain unaired. Not official, but don’t expect them before S2 late in 08.
Sarah Jane: Think ABC has it will check.
Torchwood: Bound to go to HD I agree.
Las Vegas: Was pulled here well before US. Hasn’t sustained a strong enough following. S5 has 19 eps. Don’t hold your breath…
David, just stumbled on a post on the net regarding the rollout of Southern Cross HD services across the country:
http://www.beyonwiz.com.au/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?p=15504&sid=4787eab1460d293df8014481d1eca2c1
David…I think you have got lost in the world of blogging and totally forgot a small but major part of what you used to deliver…what is on ‘TV Tonight’
Thats is what you had called your radio program and delivered just that. Now what is on ‘TV Tonight’? I used to love hearing what was on and I just realised you dont ever mention this sort of stuff. ‘Entertainment Tonight’ fell the same way. Now just reports crappy celeb news.
Adam
David, how many more episodes of Dirty Sexy Money season 1 are there? 7 don’t have any further episodes to air, right now, when will we see further episodes? Surely the episode they aired tonight was not the season finale???
All of the new shows haven’t fared well with the writer’s strike. This week’s DSM was the last ep the US has seen too. It has been renewed for another 13 for the Fall season but hasn’t been the hit Seven wanted. Hard to see them fasttracking it this year, but maybe at a 10.30 timeslot?
Adam the online site provides more info than a 5min guest spot and is available to access 24/7. Sometimes highlights are merely given further in advance (ie. I wrote about Dannii and the woodchopper in AGT days ago even though it’s on tonight). That said it’s good to know there is still interest in viewing highlights and to remember not to overlook this. There’s a lot of celeb goss stuff I ignore because it isn’t news, but I don’t see it as an either / or situation.
Thanks for Southern Cross HD info, will keep my eye on this.
David, do you know what series of Hell’s Kitchen nine are going to be showing in Melbourne tonight? Food Channel(Foxtel) has shown 2 or 3 series of HK, is the one they are airing tonight, the latest one or one of the ones already aired on Food?
Cheers
David, Smallville starts on FOX8 Friday May 30. It premieres with season four. I was wondering if you could find out for me and all other fans out if they plan to go straight to season five and then to six and so on. As most of us do not have TENHD this would be fantastic if FOX8 could manage to do this for us. Thank you in advance.
Disappointingly Hell’s Kitchen is S1, and yes later series have already aired on Lifestyle Food.
I will have to check Smallville with FOX8. They may not answer for that far ahead…
Only S4 is confirmed for FOX8 Smallville at the mo.
hows Today’s ratings been going since beginning earlier at 5:30? Are they better?
Dave,
Robert Fidgeon died sometime last year, and I still miss reading his rants every Wednesday in the Herald Sun TV Guide. Have you considered writing for the paper’s TV Guide. the same way Robert did?
I didn’t always agree with Fidge but I loved his passion and his experience. I miss the H Sun not having an opinion section in its Guide too.
I’ve done some pieces for The Age (amongst others) and H Sun is aware of my work, but I’m not sure on what level. I don’t know why they don’t have a serious TV blog!
Hi David, yesterday there was an ad on the radio for A Current Affair about something to do with Val Lehman. I didn’t happen to see ACA last night but do you know what it was about?
ACA did a story on a heart check clinic with dubious conduct in which people were given results that led them to further expensive tests. A doctor had blown the whistle on their practices driven by money.
Val Lehman as a senior celebrity had fronted some print ads and during an interview refused to address it. She told the interviewer (in no uncertain terms) that she knew nothing about the claims and was therefore unable to answer the questions.
Val being Val nevertheless gave good, angry footage that suited ACA’s story anyway. Given her surprise at the questions, she may have been lured before the cameras on the premise of another story.
ACA used and identified an actor reconstructing the doctor’s claims. A spokesperson for Nine said they may do a follow up story.
It would be nice if they allowed Val right of reply once she had all the facts too (and they had a typo on ‘Queen BeE’ in the promos).
what happened to dirty sexy money? it wasn’t on on monday night?
Thanks,
K
Kristen Seven has actually shown all the eps that aired in the US. It was heavily affected by the writers strike. More will be produced by it hasn’t done well enough to retain a 9:30 slot when it returns.
David, any word on the return of any of these shows?
The Office(channel 10), it is not even being aired on there HD channel, not a good sign when that happens.
Hotel Babylon(channel 9), still no sign of it returning, and yet another program which isn’t even airing on the HD channel( 9HD).
Thanks
Hi David,
Love your work. You had been posting details of upcoming episodes of ‘At The Movies’ - and I haven’t seen a similar post since mid-April for the episodes in the second half of April.
Can you still do this, or is Aunty not playing ball? Or is the readership insufficiently grateful?
Hi David,
On the Channel 9 Whhel of Fortune website (http://channelnine.ninemsn.com.au/tvshow.aspx?sectionid=8685§ionname=wheeloffortune) it has a date. Monday May 26.
What do you take of this? Premiere Date perhaps?
Hi David,
What has happened to Canal Rd and Casmere Mafia.
Vicki
Canal Rd returns 10:30 Wed May 28. There are repeats Mondays at 1pm.
Cashmere Mafia is axed here and in the US.
I would be interested to know the lowest rating show of the week (if they publish those), and how many people watched the show (no doubt some show in the early morning).
No we only see the Top 100 which is available in the Ratings Archive.
seen this dave? apparently seven have commissioned a doco on Andrew “Benji” Veniamin:
http://www.brimbankleader.com.au/article/2008/05/15/35249_bmv_news.html
interesting news, found it buried away on the daily telegraph website..
funny that screentime is producing too!
When the hell is the new season of Chaser starting? its been ages since ive had a good laugh.
The Chaser team were fed up with getting into trouble and have decided to do a series of stage shows this year. I think that I read somewhere that they were returning to ABC1 later in the year.
Just wondering if you know why 9 Perth hasnt followed the eastern network with re-adding the dots to it’s logo. I notice programs that are streamed across live have the dots, but any other local nine programs broadcast don’t. Is there any particular reason you are aware of?
Robert: The regional WIN Television network that also owns Channels Nine Adelaide and Perth, has chosen not to follow Nine’s change to bring back the dots to the logo.
David, any idea on when Movie Network are planning on airing season 2 of Dirt on the Movie Extra Channel?
David, why do all the commercial channels always run overtime, making it very difficult to watch or tape different channels? Chris
Hey David, two things:
I read a newspaper article a while ago stating that repeats of both America’s Next Top Model and Aus Top model would air on Ten. Last Year the US version aired, and I remembered reading production company Granada was super keen on repeating AusNTM on Ten. Was this just lies, or were any commerical channels interested in repeating ANTM? Would this be possible, cos I want my non foxtel mates to get into the show too.
And have you heard if Erika Heynatz is/was attached to host Make Me A Supermodel? Or was this a rumour too?
k, Thanks!
TEN is due to show another season of America’s Next Top Model yes. Will be an old season. Forget about the Aus one on TEN, the media is all over once Fox8 has aired it.
Both Heynatz and Jennifer Hawkins have been rumoured to front Make Me a Supermodel. Both are Seven identities with a background in this area.
Hi David
Do you know why Foxtel have pulled the Gladd awards on Arena? I set my recorder to record it during the week but all I got was bloody Paris & her half wit side kick. have I missed it or have they moved it?
Also, do you know who has the rights to X Factor in Australia. A season was on 10 years ago but it bombed, I remember reading they payed a fortune for the rights, what has happened to those rights?
Are 10 simply holding on to it & not screening it?
It would be great if 10 or even Foxtel would pick up UK X Factor, with Dannii Minogue doing well in Australia’s Got Talent & that show rating very well, surely the UK version will appeal to viewers, anything is better than another season of Idol!
Must admit I had completely forgotten GLAAD was due. I will have to check. I remember when it was scheduled thinking “this is before the US sees it” (even though it was staged some time ago). I suspect it’s related to that. I will check.
Hey David do you know what the Mark Loves Sharon promos on 10 are for?
David,
Any word on whether that Mike Bullen show which was on UKTV a few months back and was only a potential pilot(the name of the show slips me), and had Robson Green in it also(filmed in sydney), whether it is going to have further episodes made, or is that it?
Mark Loves Sharon is TEN’s new mockumentary comedy with Jason Gann.
No word on UKTV’s Make or Break, unfortunately. Doesn’t look good at this stage.
Leo, Arena confirms GLAAD Awards were held over until they air in the US which is June 27 there.
I’m not sure if it’s just in Tassie, but our TV guides say Psych is back on on Saturday night at 7.30 (or 6.30)
I hear it’s happening in non AFL states, just waiting confirmation from TEN, hopefully tomorrow.
David are you aware of any complaints filed against the series of Nando’s ads on TV at the moment ?
Having a contest amongst chickens to compete and win the right to be grilled and basted with peri-peri sauce is what I would call extremely creepy.
Nando’s ads are always cheeky (who remembers the Hanson parody?), but like DVD’s, I don’t usually track ads. It’s time consuming enough just staying on top of shows and networks. I just decided to draw the line somewhere…
Hi David,
are there any programs with Robson Green coming up? I think he’s a really good actor and his programs are always very good, I’d hate to miss them! Thanks, Conny
David, I am hoping you can help me with this.
According to this post dated 2 July 2007, Foxtel picked up both K-Ville and new Farrelly Brothers sitcom then called The Rules for Starting Over
(which has sinced been retitled Unhitched) in a joint deal with Network Ten and that under that deal Foxtel had first air rights for the two programmes before they air on Ten.
Since that time Foxtel has aired K-Ville on FOX8 but as far as I can tell has not yet Unhitched. But I note that in your 2008 Show Watch post you state that it will premiere on Ten and not Foxtel.
Has something happened in the interim that I have missed?
Good question Ian, and one that will require a little more investigation. It was Foxtel and TEN that indicated Unhitched (aka Rules for Starting Over) would air first on Foxtel than in the second half of 2008 on TEN.
The Show Watch tracks what’s coming, and thus far TEN hasn’t advised it is no longer due.
So the real question remains, why Foxtel hasn’t aired it yet, given it screened in March in the US.
I suspect the fact that only 6 eps went to air before it was cancelled is a big factor. Will ask around…
David, is Psych still going to air in Sydney on Ten this Saturday.
It was on the Foxtel guide and on online guides, but have now disapeared replaced with 1 hour of AFL (with the full match at 10.45pm) - however the Ten website has Psych scheduled!?!?
Seems to have dropped off except on TEN’s own site. Still sounds dodgy…
