Bumped: Lost, Family Guy, Stargate. Gone: American Dad

In two weeks time Seven is moving Lost to 10:30pm. The move follows diminishing ratings for the US drama, once one of Seven’s biggest brands.

Last week it only had 689,000 viewers.

No doubt some viewers have tired of Jack (or is that Gilligan?) and his survivors never getting off the island. Or was it frustration over Seven resting the show over Easter and beyond?

Still other fans are loving the complex plotting that keeps them guessing.

Last week Michael (Harold Perrineau Jr.) returned to the show after a long absence. But what does it mean?

Moving Lost means Family Guy repeats will move to 11:30pm and Stargate Atlantis lands at 12:00am. American Dad will be out of schedule altogether.

Lost currently airs at 9:30pm Thursdays on Seven until it moves to 10:30pm on May 8.

  1. what would help the lineup would put on the Cleveland Show on at 8:30pm,American Dad and Family Guy can have Nine to 10pm Reintroduce Airline and then have Scrubs on at the 10:30pm timeslot for a Thursday Night.Medical Dramas are heavy viewing by comparison

  2. channel 7 is the reason why there ar eless viewers, they keepbumping it up and messing with it, taking it away for too long and this is what happens, not to mention the fact that some people are still on holidays…. WHY CANT YOU LEAVE IT AS IT IS CHANNEL 7!!
Lost is doing rather well and i agree with outher comments that it fell apart a bit in the 2nd and 3rd season but season 4 is now better then ever!

And if nobody likes lost think of family guy! it gets the bump to and although i dont like stargate that much, i do enjoy watching a few eps when i can

    channel 7 your ruining everything!!!!!

  3. As this is one of my favourite shows, i’m not impressed. At least it is still being fast-tracked (6 days behind the US) which means aussie viewers and go on the net after Lost or friday morning and look at fantastic sites like Lostpedia and get no spoilers.

10:30pm is not good for me but I can see why Channel Seven would move it. It is a “cult” show now. Not “mainstream” like season 1.

  4. With 7’s record of pissing all over viewers and series schedules, I download LOST – it’s the only way to properly watch this show (and many others).

  5. I felt that 7’s scheduling really affected my viewing habits of this show. It’s a very unique tv show in that you need to read up and follow other texts to fully appreciate the entire story. It requires you to pay attention as there are lots of subtle things going on that you can easily miss. Things set up a season or two ago only get their payoff now.

The problem is when you search online to learn more, you’re often spoiled because people are a few pages ahead of you. That lead to me downloading it instead of being pissed about by 7’s schedule. I didn’t even know if it was coming back after the Easter break!

  6. When will stations learn that they can’t dick people around with schedules by having rests, and slipping the odd repeat in occasionally to pad out the season. Dree and Neonkitten are correct. Committed viewers source this program elsewhere leaving the viewing figures low. This is nothing new for Seven. They have a track history of pushing their much originally publicised shows deeper in to the night.

  7. That’s some intesting stats there Richard
also anothing thing is that Seven airs very little promotion for the show…how often do u see Lost ad’s compared to Gladiators or Border Security?
that n it’s been teamed up with another show totally uncompatable with it – Ghost Whisperer
they dont even aim for the same audience
it should have stayed at 8.30 and never gone to 9.30
considering it still rates strongly (if not brilliantly) its amazing to see such a massive audience slide

  8. I blame the demise of Lost on Out of the Question. OOTQ was dragging Seven’s numbers down at 8.30 and this seemed to affect Lost at 9.30. Almost everyone was suggesting that Lost should be moved to 8.30 but Seven stuck to their guns and this is the end result.

These are the figures for both programs over the run of OOTQ.
    OOTQ–Lost
    1170—–
    997—912
    812—869
    761—867
    710—780
    756—770
    671—691

  9. Never getting off the island? Err, perhaps those frustrated viewers might have been better off actually watching the current season 🙂

The core fans of this show are downloading it or getting downloaded copies from friends. It’s that sort of show – even a week’s wait isn’t good enough, given all the discussion that happens about each episode online.

Lost is a show that NEEDS to be watched regularly, every week, every episode. The traditional (it seems) Australian viewing habit of just popping in every once in a while in between channel surfing and making the dinner simply doesn’t work with this show. You need to watch it – and I mean REALLY watch it.

The lack of commitment by the demographic with the ratings boxes became apparent to me years ago, when the first season of 24 aired here.I was on a train and the secretary types sitting across from me were discussing that night’s episode.

“Are you gonna watch 24 tonight?”

“Naaah! I saw the first one, and I don’t care what happens in it, I’m just hanging out to see how it ends, so I’ll watch it then.”

  10. A shame more people aren’t appreciating Lost! It did lose its way around the 2nd-3rd season but the story and revelations have been nothing but incredible! I guess 7 have no choice with those ratings but I wonder if it will fall of the schedule altogether?

I started downloading it after 7 stuffed around with the schedule and haven’t gone back. I guess that will have to continue.

  11. A quick question, now that we’re talking schedules. When watching Kitchen Nightmares last night I saw an ad for Hell’s Kitchen (which I love, and have watched, but am looking forward to seeing it in quasi-HD). When will it start?
