Glad to see GLAAD

Update: Rescheduled to 8:30pm Thu July 17.

In an Australian first, Arena will air the GLAAD Awards which recognise gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender representation in television. The 19th GLAAD Media Awards will screen at 9.30pm Thursday 5th June 2008 as a 2 hour special.

Hosted by gay comedian Jade Esteban Estrada, it will include appearances by Kevin Bacon, Billy Baldwin, Jennifer Beals, Ilene Chaiken, Cindy Crawford, Alan Cumming, Sally Field, Kathy Griffin, Mariska Hargitay, Janet Jackson, T.R. Knight, Kyra Sedgwick, Sharon Stone, Barbara Walters and Rufus Wainwright.

The special will include award presentations from the four ceremony locations New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and South Florida.

“This year’s extraordinary nominees and honorees for the 19th Annual GLAAD Media Awards exemplify the important strides we have made as a community toward creating a truly inclusive society,” said GLAAD President Neil G. Giuliano.

“Our community has made such incredible strides toward equality because our stories have been told in fair, accurate and inclusive media — from journalism to TV storylines to film.”

The screening of the GLAAD ceremony follows the recent alignment by Arena with Bravo TV in the US.
