Hey Dad, you’re comin’ back

Gee, Mr Kelly…

Hot on the heels of the success of Seven’s Gladiators revival comes the news today that Australia’s longest-running sitcom is coming back.

TV Tonight hears Seven is about to greenlight a ‘next generation’ of Hey Dad!

Word is Chris Truswell, known as the infamous ‘Nudge’ will don the title role as the resident “Dad” with a new batch of adolescent kids. Seven, which previously gave a revival to Kingswood Country, is looking to bump up its comedy stable, given Kath and Kim is not proceeding with a production this year.

A new Hey Dad! would also join with Seven’s upcoming dramedy Packed to the Rafters, starring Rebecca Gibney.

Hey Dad! ran from 1987-1994, pumped out by writer Gary Reilly. No word yet if he is involved in this reincarnation.

The cast of Hey Dad! most recently re-appeared on Where Are They Now, sans the “dad” actor Robert Hughes.

And will Truswell be joined by “the little fat kid from Hey Dad?”

Update: “April 1st: This is the day upon which we are reminded of what we are on the other three-hundred and sixty-four.” — Mark Twain 😉
