Idol backflip: LA auditions cancelled

By David Knox on April 10, 2008 / Filed Under News 6

Just hours after sending out a Press Release plugging their London and LA Australian Idol talent search, judge Kyle Sandilands has withdrawn from the LA auditions.

A TEN spokesperson has said there were scheduling problems.

The production being stretched for its London auditions was another big factor, the spokesman added.

“London has been massive for us and we’ve had an overwhelming response to London,” he said.

“Kyle’s timetable was a factor of us not being able to do all our commitments as well.”

Really? That seems a bit of a stretch, given shows of this size plan everything well in advance. They have to, given the mammoth task of budgeting, scheduling, booking venues, hotels, legals, camera crews, publicising for auditionees. And FremantleMedia only realised today it had a budget conflict?

Odd.

Out of curiosity how many Aussie expats actually put their hand up in LA? It’s a shame also that Marcia Hines couldn’t have conducted it (after all she is the one who was actually born in the US) alongside Andrew G.

Be ironic if the auditions were canned because Kyle Sandilands will be so tied up with Big Brother he didn’t have time for this.

Listening to the radio, Apparently there was some issue with American Idol not wanting the auditions to take place while they were filming and Kyle wasn’t available to reschedule the auditions later because of his Big Brother commitments.

It is quite possible there weren’t enough interest from our ex pats to appear on the show. American Idol yes, but Australian? Why? The only reason they went to USA is to be successful there not here.

What is going on?? When did Kyle become King?? He is a big enough tool as it is!!!

Don’t they have others on stand-by.

Doesn’t really matter anyway. The winner is not going to do much, maybe become a young diva, get in touch with their culture or have a kids hospital show…

What happen to make them a global success?? Oh, that’s right, they give them boring ballad songs to sing.
