It takes two for top end Idol
Australian Idol has its Darwin auditions yesterday without Dicko, Marcia, Kyle, Andrew G, James Mathison -or even a camera crew.
It was left to producers to handpick two contestants from 58 auditionees who will proceed to the Brissy auditions.
One was Constable Sandor Hunt, 30, was one of 58 Australian Idol wannabes who sung their hearts out in Darwin yesterday — and one of just two, along with Darwin’s Christie Jacobs, who made it to the next audition stage in Brisbane.
Hunt said, “I auditioned four years ago before I became a police officer … but this time I was hugely nervous.”
He impressed judges with his renditions of Bon Jovi’s Wanted Dead Or Alive, U2’s One, Cold Chisel’s Flame Trees, and a blues version of Gene Pitney classic Breaking Up Is Hard To Do. “(The judges) were really pleased with my voice. But they said I’ve got a bit of work to do on my repertoire.”
Darwin’s Christie Jacobs, 24, had plenty of back-up in her audition yesterday — with her two sisters and cousin also trying out. But she breezed through her songs. It was a case of second time lucky for the indigenous education worker, who made it to the Top 30 in 2004.
“They only opened it up this year for previous finalists (to re-audition). It is exciting.”
