Returning: Catherine Tate Show

Bovvered? What? Me? Bovvered?

Yes, Catherine Tate is winging her way back to our screens in her third series soon on the ABC.

The comic queen returns 9:30pm Wednesday May 14 on ABC1.

Tate brings along some new characters including a psychotic and frequent petitioner, who constantly tries to raise money for victims of sexual harassment, alcoholism, sex addiction and dwarfs; a mother with an over-the-top reaction to her son coming out; and Helen Marsh, eager to please her friends and colleagues in need, who claims to have specific skills when she doesn’t.

Tate has recently resumed her role as the Runaway Bride in the latest season of Doctor Who, replacing Freema Agyeman.

Press Release:

Catherine Tate – the queen of catchphrase, the woman of a thousand faces, continues to shape the minds and vocabularies of fans and schoolgirls everywhere with her new series. Series 3 of The Catherine Tate Show, starts Wednesday 14 May at 9.30pm.

Joining her motley crew of characters are some new faces including; Geordie Georgie, a psychotic and frequent petitioner, who constantly tries to get her co-worker Martin to sponsor her in her bid to raise money for victims of sexual harassment, alcoholism, sex addiction and dwarfs; Ulster mum Kathleen Leary whose over-the-top reaction to her nervous son John coming out is more embarrassing than if she’d disowned him; and Helen Marsh, eager to please her friends and colleagues in need, claims to have specific skills when in fact she doesn’t. Needless to say, she is hopeless at everything she attempts.

In the first episode, foul-mouthed Nan visits her old friend Teddy Morris in hospital, bringing along a special present for him. Surly teenager Lauren gets a job at a burger bar, a job she hopelessly tries to deny when her friends come in. Irish mum Kathleen is delighted when her son reveals he is gay and she insists on showing him her new skirt. Charity crusader Geordie Georgie is doing a fun run dressed as a bottle of Cinzano for all the little battered husbands of Gateshead.

After claiming to speak seven languages, Helen Marsh becomes a translator at a make or break business meeting with delegates from around the world, while Aga Saga woman attends her children’s sports day but leaves suddenly after a nasty scare.

  1. I am not a fan of Catherine Tate’s comedy show … though I do appreciate some of her characters and find some skits hilarious, there are many I can’t stand as well.
However, she is BRILLIANT in Doctor Who! Have seen the first three episodes of Season 4 with her as the companion Donna, and she is so amazing! Far better than the recent younger ones … a fantastic actress!
    Jack!

  2. I didn’t take to the show when it first started but I kept with it and I’m glad I did, I’ve seen a few YouTube clips of the more recent episodes too and it does look good. Looking forward to the new* series.

    * new-ish.. i think ABC has been holding onto this for a while!

  3. I wonder how this show does in the UK…..it’s boring and tasteless in my opinion.

It’s especially annoying that she got a recurring role in Dr. Who.
