Samantha Who gone where?
Sitcom Samantha Who is being yanked off Seven’s schedule after this Thursday.
It will be replaced by new eps of That 70’s Show.
Last week Sam Who had 883,000 viewers despite the 1.5m lead in from Kate Ritchie’s final Home and Away episode.
Meanwhile both Getaway and The Biggest Loser had around 1.08m. It was even beaten by 7:30 Report.
That 70’s Show will return with “My Fairy King’ which aired in the US in April 2006. After Thursday Seven will have aired all pre-strike eps of Who, although it resumes in the US this week. No word on what happens to the unaired eps which would have been fasttracked.
Late last year Seven trumpeted the US series as “the #1 new comedy” …unfortunately, in a poor season of new shows that hasn’t turned out to be much chop here.

You raise some good points, I see where you’re coming from. Sometimes it takes a couple of seasons for shows to hit a popularity streak though. Seven aired Criminal Minds and Grey’s Anatomy’s first seasons in 9:30 timeslots if I recall correctly, and initially their ratings were rather average before people started to flock to them and they became “hits” in their subsequent seasons.
But then again, there’s the fact that my taste would definitely be different from that of the average person’s. Most people can’t get enough of those cop and hospital shows whereas I can’t stand them (excluding some exceptions like NCIS and Life). If its a popularity contest though, there’s no doubt that some well-loved shows aren’t necessarily the highest-quality ones e.g. I found Jericho’s second season to be some of the most amazing television in existence, yet it only rated 6 million viewers on average in the US. I wouldn’t go as far as to call the entire fall season poor though. I’ve found it to be quite an enjoyable and entertaining one, but then again its all up to the individual viewer.
Many have commented there is no breakout hit of the last Fall season -certainly not in the league of Housewives, Lost, Prison Break before them.
I agree Back to You is well packaged and Moonlight has developed quite a following, but even it seemed to hang in limbo. Journeyman was axed, hard to argue for that one. Haven’t seen Chuck or Reaper. Daisies is also promising.
But usually a Fall season propels something hot both critically acclaimed and popular, but 07 / 08 (aside from the writers strike) could be memorable for delivering none.
“a poor season of new shows”
I disagree with this statement, Back To You and Rules of Engagement are hilarious new shows. Plus, there are heaps of great new shows. Chuck and Life are awesome as is Reaper and Moonlight, and Journeyman got amazing in its later episodes. Unless you’re talking about the Aussie season, which has always been rather lacklustre compared to the US
As for this show getting removed, I don’t really care. I watched an ep and thought it was lame. HIMYM is infinitely better
Whats with all the phallic euphemism’s lately Neon? lol
I think the network relies on loyal fans hitting the net for the remaining episodes to kind of soften the blow. After all you get the first bunch of episodes free of charge, all thats required is you sit thru a few ads in payment. The rest is up to you.
Australian TV is in a shocking state, with these almost weekly schedule changes, dropped shows, (BBC docos on Nine), SBS-turned-adware… the sorry list goes on.
Is anyone surprised? I myself like this show but forgot it had moved to thursday night and didn’t tape it.
You can’t keep moving a show around and expect people to find it.
It’s a pretty awful show, this one, though with nearly 900,000 viewers that’s an awfully large amount of pissed-off loyal viewers that Seven’s sending off to the torrent sites. Fools.
Once again, it’s all about winning the mine’s-bigger contest and screw the viewers.
Good to see That 70s Show returning, hopefully they’ll finally play out the season (its last).
Aww. I love Samantha!
God, can anyone keep up with all these schedule changes
