Simpsons writers join Aussie remake

More names have joined the FOX animated adaptation of Aussie sitcom, Sit Down Shut Up, this time two long-time Simpsons producers, Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein (animated, left).

They join Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz and a cast including Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Henry Winkler.

Oakley said, “To run Mitch’s show, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It all worked out – Mitch wants to be in more of a supervisory role, like Ron Howard on Arrested.

“It’s extremely character based, like Arrested Development, and has different rhythms than other animated shows like The Simpsons or King of the Hill.”

He and Weinstein have taken several roles at The Simpsons during its most successful years, and worked their way up to executive producing.

A pilot of the show, currently in development for Fox, follows the irresponsible staff members of a fishing town’s high school.
