Nine nets harbour scoop
A fisherman who observed another man haul one of the victims of yesterday’s tragic boat accident on Sydney Harbour from the water has signed for an interview with Channel Nine.
Mr Bagnato was unable to discuss the incident with media because Nine had an exclusivity deal.
“I’d love to talk but they paid me not to,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald.
Dick Bagnato went past the scene of a crash a few minutes after the accident and saw a man in a 12-to-14-foot tinnie pull one of the male survivors out of the water.
“He [the victim] was throwing up,” Mr Bagnato said.
Mr Bagnato said the man in the tinnie, a recreational fisherman, was about 40 years old and of Mediterranean appearance.
The rescuer has been described as a hero who deserves a medal.
In the media game, such deals are fair terrain, even when surrounded by such tragic circumstances. But wouldn’t signing one of the three rescuers have been a better coup?
