Survivor out of Africa again

Still no sign of Survivor: Micronesia Fans v Favourites edition coming in Oz. The latest series, praised by longtime fans in the US as one of its better editions, has just concluded in the US.

As usual Jeff Probst has also flagged the next season, to be set in Gabon, western Africa. Complete with wild animals and "surfing hippos" it has a subtitle "Earth's Last Eden."

“I didn’t know where it was,” confesses host Jeff Probst. “I had to look it up on a map. It is probably the most remote place we have ever gone.”

“No one’s really ever hung out there. We’re going to leave a boma with some sticks and stuff, and the contestants will be given instructions that they need to finish it since we’re a little concerned because it’s so unknown. In Kenya [season 3], we had armed guards everywhere so that if something did happen, we could take care of it. We’re not gonna have that because they’re telling us it is so remote and will probably be remote forever. But a gorilla could wander into camp.”

It will also be the first Survivor shot entirely in HD.

The 17th season premieres in the US in September.

The most exciting news here is the HD bit. About time we got some reality TV in high def. It was looking like the reality genre was destined to be shot entirely in 4:3 for the rest of time.

The Amazing Race in HD would be fantastic!

I hadn't watched Survivor since the All-stars season but decided to download Fans vs. Favourites. It took a while to get going but it really is a great season. I'm now looking forward to the next season in Africa.

With all the rubbish being shown on Nine (Hugh & his Bunnies in the Mansion has to be the worst)it amazes me that they can't find time to program Survivor Micronesia. I miss it so much and am even enjoying "I'm a Celebrity get Me Out of Here" as a third-rate substitute.

David, I have heard you on 3AW with Ernie Sigley recently. It's good to put a voice to the blog!!

Survivor Micronesia was an awesome season - the best of the post-All Stars ones and maybe even the best since Australia.

I really hope 9 airs it soon - then I can convince David to post my interviews with the castaways!

Ben give us the links... if u have Micronesia interviews let us know with spoilers. That way people can make up their own mind if they want to hear. Maybe leave out any names from Micronesia links....

CAREFUL David: That video contains the reunion show, which clearly shows the survivors in the background, therefore being a MAJOR SPOILER.

Well it was a nanosecond, and they were a blur in the distance, I dunno about 'clearly'.... But now you've raised it I guess people might scrutinise it, so I've replaced with another, devoid of any season 16 cast.

Yeh I guess I made it out to be much more than it was but still it could well have given things away. Anyhoo, I also continue to notice that the US ratings for Micronesia (courtesy of your site David) were consistently in the top 10-15. Meanwhile Channel Nine airs Just for Laughs and Commercial breakdown from 7.30 on a Friday.
