The prince and the flower show

Poor Jamie Durie. After offering Prince Philip a little gardening advice he was snubbed by the Duke of Edinburgh.

When the Prince admired some of Durie’s ferns at the Chelsea Flower Show, Durie replied, “Actually, it’s not a tree fern, it’s a member of the Cycad family. It’s a Macrozamia moorei.”

The Prince was reportedly offended, walking off and muttering, “I don’t want a bloody lecture.”

Now, some of Fleet Street are up in arms, labelling the incident “the worst royal lapse by an Australian since Paul Keating dared lay a hand on the Queen’s back several years ago.” That old chestnut?

Durie has dismissed the embarrassing incident as nothing more than “a storm in a teacup”.

“I certainly didn’t think it would gain as much media as it did,” Durie said at the weekend.

“It’s unfortunate that it did because it takes away from the real story which is that Australia has won a gold medal here. It takes a lot of time and effort and blood, sweat and tears to make that happen

“I think it’s bit of storm in tea cup and I don’t want it tarnishing other Australians coming out here having this experience.”

Considering Prince Phillip is well known for his hilariously insensitive remarks, I think Jamie got off lightly.

Well they are the Royal Family and they are better than everyone else…Just shows how cool Jamie is, typical Aussie and by telling him the proper name shows dedication and love for his passion.
