TV hosts join anti-violence council

Today’s Lisa Wilkinson and Weekend Sunrise’s Andrew O’Keefe (both of whom worked together on Weekend Sunrise) will be named today on the 11-member National Council to Reduce Violence Against Women and Children.

Minister for the Status of Women Tanya Plibersek said the council members, had been drawn from “diverse professional and personal backgrounds”.

O’Keefe, the one man on the council, is chairman of the White Ribbon Foundation.

One in three Australian women experience physical violence and almost one in five experience sexual violence over their lifetime.

“No person should fear for their safety at home, at work, or on the street,” Ms Plibersek said.
