Vale: Jessica Jacobs

Very sad news today in reports that 17yo actress Jessica Jacobs died in a rail accident on the weekend.

She appeared in The Saddle Club, Worst Best Friends, Fergus McPhail and Holly’s Heroes.

Jacobs tripped and fell on railway lines at Cheltenham railway station on Saturday, May 10, and was struck by a train, family friend Jeff Joseph said today.

She was heading to buy her brother Adam a birthday present, he added.

In 1999 the then seven-year-old Jessica auditioned for an amateur production of The King and I, winning the role of Princess Ying Yolak, which gave her an appetite for performing. The following year she featured as Marta in The Sound of Music alongside Bert Newton and Lisa McCune, followed with an appearance in The Whiter Brighter Bob Downe Christmas Show.

Mr Joseph said Jesse, a student at Sandringham Secondary College, was a tenacious, popular and bright girl.

Her funeral will be held tomorrow at the Holy Trinity Church in St Kilda.

The news will hit the Saddle Club family hard, following a road accident involving the father of another cast member, Lauren, only last month.

Dixon remains in hospital but has posted a letter to fans on his website, saying while his extensive injuries are a challenge, he is upbeat about the situation.

  1. I was very saddened to hear this news. I’ve seen Jessica’s performances in those children’s shows and she always stood out from the rest of the cast. She showed potential to be a great actress from a very young age.
