2008 Emmys short list announced

For the first time ever the Emmy Awards have revealed their “semi-finalists”, a list of the top 10 comedies and 10 dramas which proceed to the next stage of “blue ribbon” voting amongst members of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Traditionally the Academy has not revealed its short list of the 20 shows under consideration for best drama and best comedy series nominations.

The short list sees the possibility of some new contenders for Outstanding Drama / Comedy including Dexter, Flight of the Conchords, Damages, Mad Men and The Wire (pictured).

It’s also interesting to see what didn’t make the cut: Desperate Housewives, CSI, Medium, Monk, The Simpsons, Scrubs, Big Love to name a few….

  1. Good to see Family Guy, The Office and Entourage getting the recognition they deserve. I’d be happy to see either one of these 3 take it out, although it’ll probably go to something questionable like 30 Rock or Ugly Betty.

Boston Legal is amazing and should definitely win an Emmy after many years of being snobbed, regardless of the category. LOST was fantastic this year and the rest of the dramas I don’t particularly care for, although it’ll probably be something like The Wire or Mad Men or Dexter or some other unsavoury cable show that takes out the title.

  2. Ah, the annual Emmys mystery 🙂

This year’s puzzle: how on earth do they classify “Pushing Daisies” and “Weeds” as comedies, while listing “Boston Legal” as a drama?
