Adriana flips for Nine’s Wheel

I’d like to buy a “C for Counterbalance” please.

Adriana Xenides reckons she loves Nine’s Million Dollar Wheel of Fortune. In fact she loves the whole, darn thing, -most especially that her old show is back on the box. Her comments contradict those attributed to ‘Baby’ John Burgess who said she found it “a bit flat.”

Xenides has reportedly described the program as “refreshing” and “nicely brought up into the 21st century”.

“I love the very cool colours, love them to bits, and the opportunity of winning a million dollars, that’s excellent,” Xenides told AAP.

Xenides also heaped praise on new hosts Tim Campbell and Kelly Landry. “Watching Tim work I feel he is very warm and natural,” she said. “As far as Kelly is concerned, she is one of the most beautiful girls on TV today. She is absolutely stunning.”

“And I’m so thrilled and proud that the big boys have allowed her (Landry) to expand the role of co-host,” Xenides said. “Rather than in our day where we talked for a few minutes at the beginning and the end.”

Expanded role? No offence to Landry but in 2008 it seems to be a superfluous role. At least when Xenides appeared there was some logic in having the letters manually turned. Wheel producers didn’t even think of having Landry read out the prizes, as Livinia Nixon capably does on Temptation.

Xenides said she believed Burgess had probably been “misrepresented badly”. She said she spoke to Burgess earlier this month and he didn’t say anything bad about the show. “We were talking, reminiscing about the tricks we used to get up to and we said, ‘hey the show’s back isn’t it great’,” she said. “I can’t remember him saying anything bad about the show. I’ve known him for 27 years so I know him inside out and he’s not vindictive at all.

“John’s such a pro, and such a gentleman, it’s hard for me to believe that he would say anything scathing about the show that we did for nearly two decades and brought such a joy and had such a following.”

Although it is being whipped by Deal, Wheel of Fortune deserves a better gestation period than the write-off many are inclined to give it. Xenides has certainly given a glowing report card. No doubt producer Paul Waterhouse, who was behind both the veteran and contemporary versions, will be pleased to see her set the record straight.

Now if only they can give away the $1M…..

  1. I dont think the new version is as popular as the orginal version.
I have only watched this versions once , it just doenst have the same feeling to it.

same as Gladiators , they re make it , but its not nearly as good as the original .

  2. Now thats a great attitude to have Adriana! Finally an optimistic voice amongst the lol “celebrities”

Rich, its not meant to be easy to and on a million.

  3. I’m skeptical as to whether the 1m will be given away very soon. The wedge with the 1 mill on it is tiny, only taking the space of 1/3rd of a normal sized wedge. That, and its surrounded by 2 bankrupts.
