Blooming marvellous career

Gardening Australia’s Peter Cundall filmed his last ABC TV show today, which will screen on July 26th.

Mr Cundall, 81, has hosted gardening television programs since 1969.

He says he was hooked on gardening from the age of three, when he planted some peas. “I shoved them in the ground and out they popped and I was absolutely astonished.”

Mr Cundall has a vegetable patch at the Botanical Gardens in Hobart which features in the Gardening Australia program.

“The Gardens has about 450,000 visitors a year and most of those coming in the gate want to know where Pete’s Patch is,” Lesley Kirby said.

Mr Cundall will continue giving gardening advice on his weekly Tasmanian talkback program, on ABC Radio.

He is expected to end with his trademark sign-off, “That’s your blooming lot.”
