Newman back off the bench

Only three weeks after being told to take a break, Sam Newman will return to The Footy Show (AFL) tomorrow.

Newman was sent to counselling after he was widely criticised for a comedy stunt that backfired.

Two major sponsors said it was withdrawing advertising during the programme and a third expressed concerns.

Nine conceded it had returned Newman to the show too soon after major surgery and maintained that he would return soon.

Press Release:
Nine announced today that Sam Newman will return to The Footy Show tomorrow night. Sam will be back on-air alongside Garry Lyon, James Brayshaw and Trevor Marmalade for the top-rating, award-winning 9.30pm program.

Sam has had four weeks off to enable him to fully recover from major surgeries and other recent illnesses. During his period of convalescence, Sam has had the benefit of expert professional assistance and care.

Nine Network Executive Director and GTV9 Managing Director, Jeffrey Browne said, “Sam has been through quite an ordeal in recent months but I am confident he is now fully fit and ready to return tomorrow night.”

  1. Great… Win television will not Air the Footy Show (AFL) because they are airing Wimbledon in its spot.

I find it unfair that we wont get this broadcast but channel nine will.
