Out of the ratings Blue

A small line in a local newspaper today suggests that TEN could screen the new soap Out of the Blue over the summer non-ratings period.

“The show is currently being aired on the BBC in the UK and will hit Australian screens at the end of the year on Channel TEN” writes the Manly Daily.

Such a move would reflect that the show hasn’t fared too well in the UK and despite TEN’s hopes for a new -and much-needed- local serial, it won’t be this one.

There has also been suggestions that the content of the murder mystery would breach the G classification TEN planned in the 6pm slot. Played anytime after 6pm would however garner TEN some local content points.

Meanwhile, Toni Pearen will guest star as “a conniving woman whose focus is shared between manipulation and men.”

“Obviously, I’m very used to playing the girl next door. I often get cast in those roles … for my entire career, always sweet and innocent and accessible,” she said.

Pearen recently left Funniest Home Videos to look at a return to acting. She has also been mentioned in stories on The Young Doctors for Nine, but casting is yet to begin on that drama.

Underbelly’s Gayton Grantley and former E Street and Country Practice actors Noel Hodda and Richard Huggett have also filmed scenes for Out of the Blue. Former A Country Practice star Shane Withington will also feature as a police sergeant on the hunt for a killer.

With 80 of the 131 commissioned episodes filmed, the Southern Star series will continue production until the end of the year. Presumably, a decision will be made on how it is travelling before then.
