2008 will mark the first occasion that full coverage of the Ryder Cup has been broadcast on free-to-air television in Australia.

The 2008 Ryder Cup will be contested from September 19 – 21, 2008 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, USA.

TEN will telecast more than 25 hours of coverage across all three days of the tournament on its analogue, standard definition and high definition (HD) channels.

The 2008 Ryder Cup will feature at least 12 of the world’s top 20 players including world number one Tiger Woods and world number two Phil Mickelson representing Team USA, and world number six Sergio Garcia and world number seven Justin Rose representing Team Europe.

The 2008 Ryder Cup adds to TEN’s already impressive portfolio of premium golf events which includes the year’s first two Major Championships, the Masters and the US Open, as well as the prestigious World Golf Championships and the Australian PGA Championship.

The 2008 Ryder Cup tees off on TEN at approximately 11pm on Friday September 19, 2008.

About the Ryder Cup The Ryder Cup is a golf trophy, donated by Samuel Ryder, which is awarded biennially in an event called the “Ryder Cup Matches” between teams from Europe and the United States.

The Ryder Cup Matches involve various match play matches between players selected from two teams of twelve. Currently, the matches consist of eight foursomes matches, eight fourball matches and twelve singles matches. The winner of each match scores a point for their team, with half a point each for any match that is tied after 18 holes.

The non-playing captains of each team for 2008 are Paul Azinger (USA) and Nick Faldo (Europe).

Kudos to Ten as always for buying the HD feeds of these events - the picture quality on the golf is always astonishing - but as for this:

Tiger Woods will feature as one of the golfers.

(Cue pantomime voice) Ohhhhh no he won’t!

Tiger’s out of action for the foreseeable future - and thankfully, going by the sheer agony he was clearly in last weekend.
