A new lounge, very nice indeed.
in the 2nd episode of Summer Heights High, there is a sequence about Islander kids, what are Islander kids? what island are they from, and why are they less likely to do well in society?
Ian you must be watching in the UK? Pretty sure Jonah is from Tonga, one of several Pacific islands east of New Zealand (although we could also use the term for Torres Strait Islanders north of Qld). Like any minority group in a western society they have social challenges in terms of fitting in, employment, education etc.
NZ did a whole animated comedy on Maori and islander boys which was great called Bro’Town.
yep im watching in the UK.
Thanks for your help.
Hey David—forgive my ignorance—but are viewers of the HD channels counted at all towards ratings (simulcasted shows)? If not, aren’t the networks just promoting it to their detriment?
They may judge, say, Boston Legal as a poor rater, but for all they know there could be another 600,000 watching it on the HD channel. Right?
Dave,
Since Nine now allows you to watch National Nine News from the three major capital cities online, do viewers still have to put up with ad breaks?
Hi David (and Ian if you’re still here),
David - correct re Jonah coming from Tonga.
Ian - the “islander” kids are (in this case) those from Polynesia.
(David - if you check some of the SHH merchandise they have “Polyforce” and “Being A Poly Oh my golly” t-shirts.)
does anyone know what’s up with the new sunrise set?
it seems their broadcasting from the second story now rather then the first?
Do you know why, and if so, do they plan to return?
Two completely unrelated questions?
1) Where is Mary Kostakidis? Will she ever grace our screens again with her perfect pronounciation?
2) Torchwood Season 2 - Will the ABC raid Network 10 and give the show the timeslot it deserves?
Thanks for any help anyone can give.
TEN still has Torchwood S2, probably headed for TEN HD. Haven’t heard anything on Mary K.
I’m really concerned about the BBC taking over UKTV. Looking at the websites on their other channels - BBC Prime and BBC Entertainment it looks like the schedules have half a dozen programmes on a constant repeat cylce - just like BBC HD. The complaints on their websites are mainly to do with (1) why are there so many repeats and (2) why have the soaps been dropped. Do you think it will go the same way?
Do you know if or when ABC1 will air the new season of Live From Abbey Road?
And does the ABC have any plans to air any part of the BBC’s recent coverage of last weeks Glastonbury music festival?
Any reason why TEN is running so fast through Friends series’? It looks like it will end soon, yet it hasn’t been on TEN for very long. I am more then sure they have missed episodes. Also, why do they remove certain parts of the episodes? One moment they are talking about one subject, next moment they have all moved talking about something else.
Well, god…, they are airing the episodes every weeknight, and have since at least december last year. Do the maths on that. Also, at 6pm there can’t be much sexual innuendo or crude jokes broadcast.
Yes, they are cutting out the crude jokes on Friends, but they also have skipped whole episodes, thet have adult content. They’ve been doing it since in moved to 6.00 pm. For example there was one that had Chadler handcuffed to a desk, so Rachel’s Boss could have her way with him, totally skipped.I stopped trying to keep up with the eps once I realised this.
Is there any chance that Ugly Betty would return on Thursdays once How I met Yr Mother & Earl have finished their seasons? Thursady night would seem a better fit for Betty than Wednesdays.
Hey David,
Any idea what TEN is doing with Psych? It came back for 1 week and now has vanished again!
Thanks
SD
Hey! I was just wondering, lately there have been some new horror movies on at late, like Seed of Chucky is on now, Freddie Vs Jason was on not to long ago, along with Jeepers Creepers 2 and a few others.
Is Ten going to continue with these horror movies?
Also, are they not allowed to advertise them or something? Because I never see ads for these movies. I remember seeing Fight Club and Sin City on Ten but never seeing any ads for them.
right this is going to seem strange:
on a Neighbours forum I am discussing this bit of casting news, Kristin Holland as Pete Ferguson
Kristin would normally be a female name, so ive done some research and IMBD has a page for him/her from an episode of Underbelly (episode 5, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, the character name being Norman Weedy Guy, but IMDB calls him/her an Actress.
I know im pushing my luck as s/he only appeared in one episode, but could someone confirm his/her gender?
I am guessing male, and have sent a correction to IMDB, butI would like it confirmed.
This is more an observation than question, but has anyone noticed the real lack of Saturday night entertainment (mainly 7, 9 and 10)? The movies screened are pathetic, for example Ten seems to just keep About A Boy and Mean Girls rotating every 3 weeks. Is the lack of good Saturday night movies seasonal?
I believe I will be converting completely to SBS at this rate!
It makes me wonder how they can say they make so much profit, yet they can’t manage to buy and screen any remotely recent movies.
David,
Nine are premiering The F Word tonight at 9:30pm(another Gordon Ramsay show, which has aired previously on Food).
Do you know whether the series nine are airing is the latest series which has aired in the UK this year, bus hasn’t as yet on Food, or is it one of the earlier ones which have?
UK is up to S4 this is S2.
Any word yet on when Channel 9 might let us watch Survivor Micronesia? Are the U.S. screening another series after this one yet?
Thanks to Ch 7 for finally programming The Amazing Race. We are loving this series.
None, zero, zilch, 0.
g’day David, do you think 7 will replace 30 rock with scrubs when it finishes up. It seems like ages since season 6 wrapped up.
The final of Stargate was on last night. Does 7 plan to show the series that follows? Is there a series that follows? It was a great unfinished ending and now I feel all empty inside because I don’t know what happens next.
Thanks!
We are quite some way behind Stargate Atlantis in the US with the 4th series already shown and the 5th starting tonight. With KOTH moving in, it doesn’t seem likely to return anytime soon.
New Scrubs is expected to follow 30 Rock’s season.
David, love your website! I have a question, how does these embargo things you refer to work, is it simply that the networks issue information but tell you that you cant release it until a certain day and time? and if you do release it early are you not included on further releases or do you just get a slap on the wrist?
Embargos to media are commonplace between media outlets and publicists whether its TV, radio, press, politics, film etc. It’s to ensure everyone runs at the same time with the info and sometimes to allow them a launch.
Seven used to have guides under embargo for a few days but has since lifted this. I always observe them whenever requested. It’s just not worth ruining your rapport for one “scoop.” They don’t happen too often thankfully.
In the case of BB axed it appears production staff leaked the info ahead of TEN’s own press release which was sent out at midnight. Can’t think why….
Canal Road - I was on the “Catch up TV” site and noticed an 8th ep which as far as I know didn’t air and is not on iTunes,
Do you know if it will air as 500Mb it’s too big for me to DL.
And is that the last ep made or is there a full 13 eps in total?
Canal Rd will return but we don’t know when. There were 13 eps.
1 hour shows (42 mins) are usually 350mb, and 1/2 hour shows (21 mins) are usually 175mb.
Thanks David
and yes benno I;m well aware of the sizes, if it was 350 from ch9 I’d probably get it but 500 is an odd size and you need a special player.
I just hope I can catch the rest of Canal Road when it airs as I like it and want closure to the mystery.
Hi I am trying to track dow the ratings for the 2pm show on Perths ch9 called WWE Afterburn, does anyone know where one might get these thanks
Having already seen the remaining eps of Dr Who as well as Torchwood S2 and The Mary Jane Adventures, I wanted to know if Australian audiences will get to see them before the 3-part finale of the Dr. They don’t explain the character of Luke or Mr Smith or the missing members of TW. Plus what’s this I’m hearing about Full Monty actor Robert Carlyle taking over as The Doctor?
lancer1993, rumour has it that nine will burn off the remaining eps of canal in primetime durin the olympics.
In this article: http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,24046542-662,00.html
It says that Network Ten will run several first-run episodes of The Simpsons, but the bulk of the animated series will be repeats, slotted into themed nights. Do you have any more information on this David?
Thanks.
It’s pretty self-explanatory with Simpsons ‘theme nights’ during Olympics here and there. I don’t have specifics nights yet but will post when they are received.
Cool. Thanks.
Hey David, Do you know what nine has scheduled in at 11:30pm now that Nightline has been axed?
Likely to hear Monday morning.
David I just read Canal Road the first(only) season is coming to DVD in August, all 13 eps, but only in 4×3!
Is this true and if so WTF are they thinking given it aired in 16×9 and that’s what we have come to expect from our DVDs now.
I won’t be paying the $50 asking price but does this mean ch9 had dropped the idea of bringing it back late this year?
I don’t track DVDs as it’s another blog in itself, but that does sound odd. 9 is burning off Canal Rd over the Olympics.
i was just looking around on the ninemsn site and came across the "This Is Your Life" page (http://channelnine.ninemsn.com.au/section.aspx?sectionid=6445§ionname=thisisyourlife)
on the site it says that the show is on "Sunday 6:30pm"…. Is this site up to date? Is it coming back after Domestic Blitz or is it just a case of website not being updated? Have you heard anything? Does that mean that the latest "Specials" are just a taste test for the new season?
Also i know it is too early to speculate but what will happen now Munro has resigned
Do you know or can you find out when Western Australia’s rural network, GWN, will be ‘going digital’ in the wheatbelt area. I am hearing impaired and I bought a set top box 4 years ago so that I could get closed captions on the digital stations (I get WIN, SBS and ABC) and I was told then that GWN would be changing to digital very soon … I’m still waiting and they don’t answer my queries.
Tricky question… will see what I can uncover.
