Classic cops getting a remake
One of the 70’s most successful cop shows, The Streets of San Francisco is set for a remake. The classic series that starred Michael Douglas and Karl Malden will be reinvented as a CBS drama, rather than a big screen version.
Writer Sheldon Turner (The Longest Yard) and Numb3rs’ producer Robert Port are penning the script, which will keep key elements from the original series: the title, the names of the two main characters and, of course, the ‘Frisco backdrop. The show will also retain the key relationship of senior and younger cops, which, along with the brilliant casting, was pivotal to the show’s success.
Otherwise everything else is up for grabs.
“The times are very similar — it was the Vietnam War in the 1970s and the Iraq War now,” said Turner. “There is the same sort of tension between generations, and we wanted to carry that to the new series.”
What about Henry Mancini’s great theme? And they better have some of those great car chases up and down those hills!
