Drama whips reality as BB leaves the building

Big Brother last night went out with an average of 1.49m viewers for its conclusion, peaking at 1.75m. Average audiences are the standard in industry rankings. When head to head with City Homicide (1.51m), Seven’s drama won over TEN’s reality.

TEN was third for the night overall.

This year’s final was down on 2007 which was watched by just under 1.8m. That show peaked at 2.3m during 8:30-10pm, and notoriously ran overtime. 2007’s average was down 100,000 on the show’s end in 2006, which was down on 2005.

TEN’s chief programming officer, David Mott, said: “Last night’s finale was one hell of a celebration.

“There is still immense affection for Big Brother and the housemates.

“We’re enormously proud to have been involved with such a great production for so long.”

As with many of its event finales, TEN splits the show into two titles, which helps with end of year lists to claim extra winners in top twenties.

Previous finales have passed averages of 2.2m.

TEN has reason to cheer over its BB website. Online video views doubled year-on-year to 7.5 million.

It was the #1 TV program site between April – June 2008, according to Hitwise, accounting for one in four visits to program websites by Australian Internet users.

* TEN advises 1.49m between actual screening 20:54 – 21.35pm.

    Rory got

    20,000 Westfield voucher
    A kumka holiday
    A mobile phone
    Mobile broadband

Poor Alice and Travis got what everyone else got I think that the prizes were pretty crap this year considering what they had to put up with

  2. Johnson says:

Rory got a $20,000 gift voucher.

Does anyone know if Rory got anything extra for coming second? I know Ben got a $10,000.00 gift voucher, but didn’t hear what Rory got. I think they desreved a lot more for what BB had put them through this series.

    Hi David,

Well, those figues tell a story. The interest in this has fallen significantly, and I’m glad it has gone.

You should take note of that – please let this be your last story on BB.

    (Seriously)

Fangara101 I don’t know about so we know you cant dance because I don’t watch that show I was a big TBL last year after a friend got me hooked on the show and the TBL final got 1.8mil so BB was about 350 down on TBL

As fir the finale of BB I was great they only things that I can fault it on is that as usual king vile didn’t smile and was his usual self

Another thing that I didn’t like about it was that they should have spent more time with the previous winners and they should have been allowed to go into the house one final time they should have also spent more time with this years housemates

I think the thing that most annoyed me was that mike Goldman didn’t get nearly enough air time as he should have he has been on the show since the start for Christ sake

But apart from those things it was a great finale to a great show I think we need about a years break for people to miss the show before it is hopefully bought back I think if that happened then the ratings would pick up a bit

Sure the numbers were down but that was still a hell of a lot of people watching.

Overall it was an okay finale with an emotional edge for real fans. I’m glad I stuck with it till the end and didn’t let the knockers talk me out of being a proud BB fan.

Hope it comes back in years to come and claims some new fans.

I was so glad Nana Terri won!!

I was wondering, how did it compare to SYTYKD and The Biggest Losers Finale?
