Make me a super mentor

Dashing US model Tyson Beckford will mentor the contestants on Seven’s Make Me a Supermodel.

Beckford, who co-hosts the US version of the show, arrived in Australia on Friday and quickly met with Australian host Jennifer Hawkins.

“She’s one of the most beautiful girls I’ve seen,” Beckford said. “But what I like is that she’s just so natural and so laidback.” he told the Daily Telegraph. “Look what you have had come out of your country - Elle Macpherson, Megan Gale…”

Beckford, who will return to Los Angeles on Wednesday, said he was not concerned about being too tough on contestants. “We are tough, but we are not as tough as the real world,” he said.

“Sometimes you go to these bookings and they flip through your book so fast you think, ‘He did not seen one of my pictures’ and they throw your book back at you.

“There is a lot of rejection in the modelling business.”

Beckford, who has Jamaican / Chinese descent, was in Australia in 2003 filming I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

The local Supermodel series will make its debut on Seven early next month.

Press Release:
Really, really, ridiculously good looking American male model Tyson Beckford has landed in Australia to star in Channel Seven’s glamorous new talent search MAKE ME A SUPERMODEL.

Beckford, one of the world most recognisable faces, will be a guest judge and mentor to the male and female finalists of the series as they compete for a contract with top agency Chadwick Models and Management.

He will join the show’s expert judging panel, including the show’s host, Jennifer Hawkins, marie claire editor and publisher Jackie Frank and Chadwick’s managing director Martin Walsh, in their search for Australia’s next face of international fashion.

Beckford, who made a memorable cameo in Ben Stiller’s 2001 blockbuster Zoolander, is the ideal mentor for the finalists battling for the MAKE ME A SUPERMODEL title.

He achieved fame as a model in the early 1990s when after a chance meeting with world-leading designer Ralph Lauren he was made the face of his famous Polo menswear campaign.

This campaign catapulted his profile around the globe and provided the ultimate platform for what has become a successful acting career on TV and in feature films. He has also appeared as a mentor on the US version of MAKE ME A SUPERMODEL.

Beckford is impressed with the local talent lining up to be part of the show. “There is a lot of potential in this group of guys and guys – some of them will go a long way if they really want it.” He’s also impressed with Hawkins. “She’s one of the most beautiful girls I’ve seen, she’s so natural and laidback,” he said.

MAKE ME A SUPERMODEL is coming soon to Seven - when the top 14 models are chosen, they will be housed under the one roof for the duration of their stay. It could be one day, or they could go all the way.

MAKE A SUPERMODEL is an Endemol Southern Star production for the Seven Network, from a Tiger Aspect Productions format.
