Not so GLAAD

The GLAAD Media Awards will not screen as promised this Thursday night on Arena.

It is the second time Arena has scheduled the US awards for gay and lesbian representation in the media. It was originally scheduled for June 5 (ahead of its US screening) and reprogrammed for this Thursday night.

A spokesperson for Arena told TV Tonight the problem this time lay with the US production unable to get international clearance for music rights.

The ceremony, which would have aired for the first time in Australia, includes the casts of Brothers and Sisters, Grey’s Anatomy, The L Word, Dirty Sexy Money and more. Arena will replace the ceremony with The Janice Dickinson Modelling Agency.

It will not be rescheduled.

  1. Music clearances are a huge problem for shows that have limited international appeal.
CMC can’t air ACM Awards, Nashville Star, or the Grand Ole Opry for this reason.
