Sit down, sign this -or else.

Protesting US writers on the animated version of Aussie sitcom Sit Down Shut Up have been offered another deal from Sony Pictures TV.

Unless a deal is reached Sony could pull the plug on the series, being developed by Mitch Hurwitz (pictured). The month-long stalemate has been delayed by a month because of the walkout. The writers believe they were misled that they would be covered by the WGA but Sony says it had an agreement from the start they would be covered by another union, the IATSE.

The current proposal is said to include a more generous package than what’s been previously presented, but keeps the main deal points from the previous offer intact, including maintaining the show’s status as a signatory to IATSE.

The writers apparently had until Wednesday to respond to the new version of the offer. By Wednesday night, there still was no resolution but there is optimism all but two would accept the offer.

Let’s hope the picket line doesn’t stop what should be an interesting comedy to say the least.
