2m watch Closing Ceremony

An average of two million viewers watched the Closing Ceremony last night from Beijing.

The event which ran from 10pm to 12:09am AEST attracted 2.00m viewers average in the 5 metro cities -the yardstick for all television ratings. It peaked at 2.82m viewers.

Adding regional viewers the average was 2.69m and 3.89m peak.

But the show also ran 40 minutes short of its scheduled time, meaning the preliminary figure put out today by OzTAM logs the audience as 1.54m viewers average.

In the ratings game morning figures are always preliminary and do not factor in for time overruns and late starts.

So Seven’s audience for the Closing Ceremony was actually better than preliminary figures indicated.

For its actual telecast the games attracted an average of Sydney in 623,000, Melbourne 641,000, Brisbane 235,000, Adelaide 214,000 and Perth 294,000. Naturally, Seven also had a convincing 41.5% share over Nine’s 21.7% and TEN’s 20.3%. On that basis it will also win the week.

OzTAM will adjust the figure for the event according to actual broadcast times later this week.
