Almost a believer

Tonight is the final of Seven’s psychic game show, The One, but host Andrew Daddo told TV Tonight it hasn’t particularly swayed his own views toward becoming a believer.

“Not so sure,” he conceded.

But he is convinced the contestants are staunch believers in their own powers.

“I can safely say they definitely believe in the gift of psychic powers,” he said. “I think they all really truly believe in what they’re doing.”

Daddo believes that the show not offering any prize therefore makes the participants more likely to be authentic. Although they stand to ‘win’ a bit of free publicity there is also a downside.

“Also they risk the chance of utter ridicule.”

As for a second series, Daddo couldn’t predict the future. How do you follow up a show that anoints a psychic with such finality?

“The Other One?” he joked.

Daddo, who is on his way to Beijing for Seven’s Yum Cha, also reckons he could be dogged by the show’s catchphrase, with people already dropping it into conversation around him.

“I was playing golf the other day with someone where you choose a partner every hole,” he explained. “They’d go ‘you are not the one.’ I like it I think it’s really funny.”

But he says the most interesting reaction to the show comes from people he never expected to become hooked.

“Some really sharp people going ‘oh my god it was amazing!’ I just go ‘yeah ok.’”

The One has its final episode tonight at 7:30pm on Seven.
