Underbelly writers Peter Gawler, Greg Haddrick and Felicity Packard won the AWGIE award for best television mini series adaptation Leadbelly: Inside Australia’s Underworld, by Age journalists John Silvester and Andrew Rule. It was the sole nominee in its category.
Last night the Australian Writers Guild held its annual awards for writing in film, television, radio and stage at Melbourne’s Plaza Ballroom.
Haddrick also won for TEN’s upcoming telemovie The Informant, pipping The King.
Comedy writer Doug MacLeod (Dogstar) took out three awards, including the Fred Parsons Award for Contribution to Australian Comedy.
SBS was a big winner with East West 101 and Newstopia scoring in the mini series and comedy sections while Home and Away and All Saints episodes received awards in the TV series and TV serial categories.
