Beijing ‘fakes’ Opening Ceremony

Beijing has been accused of faking two key moments in its Opening Ceremony.

It turns out that amazing aerial shot of footprint fireworks released over the city was in fact an animation, although organisers claim the fireworks did go off at the same time, just not in the way it was presented. They claim this was for safety reasons, but it was also probably one to cover issues to do with smog.

Meanwhile he little Chinese girl who sang, make that mimed, wasn’t even miming her own voice.

Pigtailed Lin Miaoke was considered more aesthetically pleasing than the actual singer, seven-year-old Yang Peiyi, who has “a chubby face and uneven teeth.”

“The reason was for the national interest. The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feelings, and expression,” said Chen Qigang, the general music designer of the ceremony.

“Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects. But in terms of voice, Yang Peiyi is perfect, each member of our team agreed,” he said.

Miming isn’t unusual at such enormous outdoor events, even Sydney went there, but at least it was Nikki Webster’s voice.

Almost as fake as ‘live’ events from Seven? At this rate Beijing is at risk of being the Milli Vanilli Olympics.
