First a disclaimer… big fan of Freddie Mercury here. I saw him performing a number of times and he was an absolute showman.
So I’m a little staggered that Battle of the Choirs tackles Bohemian Rhapsody tonight. Putting ‘choralography’ to such a masterpiece is a pop crime. True, Wayne’s World had a go at it, but umm, they weren’t being serious.
Tonight all three remaining choirs in the Grand Final tackles a trimmed version of the song. It’s not one for purists, so much as those who have enjoyed the show’s communal, boisterous approach.
I thought the band did a pretty good job of affecting the sound of Brian May’s guitar.
But if they were going to do Bohemian Rhapsody, shouldn’t they have hired a gong?
Battle of the Choirs airs 7:30pm tonight on Seven.
